I suppose it's time for a new NHL thread given the season change. My Flyers have been making some interesting moves. Happy to have Emery and Lecavalier on the roster.. hopefully they figure out a way to get under the cap. Anything surprise you so far with the draft and free agency?
Interesting that Ryan Clowe moved on from NYR to Jersey Devils.... Viktor Stalberg left the Black Hawks for Nashville. Rob Scuderi (LAK) goes back to Pittsburgh. But really, I never thought that Daniel Alfredsson would leave Ottawa.
Bobby Ryan moved out of Anaheim - steep price. Noesen may be a real good one + a first round pick 2014 and Silvferberg (sp?). Watched S. Noesen play here in Plymouth Whalers for a couple of years...
Overall, I am happy with the Bruins moves over the last couple weeks. I was surprised that they traded Seguin right now, but Loui Eriksson seems like he will be a much better fit with this team. After the surprise wore off, I started to really like this trade. I was also a little surprised and disappointed that Nathan Horton wanted to leave (for Columbus??? Really?!?), but finally getting Iginla should fill that hole pretty well. Finally, one player I think we will miss more than most people realize is Andrew Ference. His talent can be replaced by some of the young guys the Bruins have (Krug, Bartkowski, etc.), but losing his leadership and personality will leave a void.
Kovalchuk just absolutely crippled the Devils offense with that retirement. They lost Clarkson bc of his contract, without both of them that's like 1/4 of their goal scoring.
NHL training camps are opening with player's physicals today. Exhibition games begin next week. Although I love seeing training camp open, I dislike what follows - fre*king winter and crappy weather!
I was counting down the days to puckdrop this weekend. Some big moves in the NHL over the off-season and the Maple Leafs have not had as much as I would like.
They did and I am happy about that as well we had a few nice looking players come in. Not sure if I like some of the losses like Grabowski, Kostka, and MacArthur though. It does still feel like a positive though but I really think Grabowski was a good player and still has lots of room to develop. Let's see how they come together as a team as more importantly as a goal tending unit.
Let the fun begin! Tonight's telly lineup here is: 7p CBC Trawna at Habs 8p NBCSN Caps at (boo!) Blk Hawks 10p CBC Winnipeg at Edmonton Should be an interesting NHL season with the re-alignment of divisions and the "new" team playoff arrangement.
Going to the Oiler game, I'm really looking forward to the season and especially the new divisions etc. Playing each team twice (home and home) will be a nice change.
Red Wings looked REALLY good last night, except for Jimmy Howard's gaff with the biscuit in the third period.
Excited for the Kings season opener tonight! Funny, with this new alignment I'm not sure what team I'm supposed to root for when watching non Kings games anymore....I actually found myself looking at nhl.com last night to figure out! haha
I think Patrick Roy is going to end up in the books as a very highly regarded coach. Dude's passion is intense. Stoked my Flyers finally won another game last night.
That's partially Greg Sherman's job. If they keep him on the straight-and-narrow though... could be a great lift for the franchise.
Bumpity. Pretty empty feeling here tonight, as the Red Wings lead the entire game, to get tied up the last minute of regulation, then to get whipped in OT with just seconds remaining. Stars' Jamie Benn is a big-horse and Rich Peverly is on fiiiiiiiiii-re.
Time to bring this thread back from the dead. Playoffs are starting next week and my tickets just showed up today. With how well the Bruins are playing, hopefully that means I'll be busy through mid June.
Jay. I do not see anybody in the East beating your team. The West is a toss up...neither the Blues nor Kings can score; Blackhawks stars hurt. Sharks and Ducks could surprise. The one team I would say the Broons have to watch out for is not the Pens...I expect MAF will melt again...but the Habs. Price gets hot, look out.
Hopefully, I get the same seat for what would be game 7 against the Hawks. I am in the red Canada jersey after the Hawks tied game 6 last June. Image Unavailable, Please Login
