LeBron James will not play if Donald Sterling still owns Clippers next season | FOX Sports on MSN Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Sterling, while not a savory character, should have the right to continue to own his team. I don't see how other owners could make him sell, especially at a discounted price. Seems made for order for years of lawsuits. Would be interesting to see the player's bluff called on this one.
Seems like that would put many players in breach of contract. I highly doubt they would follow through on this. Just an empty threat.. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
In order to circumvent the "breach of contract", they simply just say that are going to retire. They can return to the NBA anytime after that.
Seems like retiring in the middle of a contract could incite legal action, no? Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
No. A player can retire at any point of his career. Retirement is the only exception to not fulfilling the length of one's contract. (as well as a career ending injury, but that one's obvious).
Ok. I assume upon retirement they stop collecting any contracted $$ at that point and forward, correct?
Yes, that is correct. Once they retire, their contract is terminated, but that team still owns the rights to that player should he decide to come out of retirement in the future.
LeBron will amend it to say he won't play any games against the Clippers, but it would be interesting to see if his team would have to play the Clippers in a playoff series. LeBron has a great opportunity to keep his yap shut and just play the game, but sadly his intelligence is lacking in that respect.
