As noted in the other thread, figured we should start a spoilers thread so as to not get in trouble!....

    ;)

I'm actually pretty much going to agree with this weeks Sports Illustrated projections. Which is probably the kiss of death of course..... Incidentally, if anyone's interested in this thing (and you should be!), it's worth picking up - Pretty good preview. Dated 6/9.

Semis; Brazil beat Germany & Argentina beat Spain (SI has Uruguay beating Spain in the quarters, but I disagree.)

    Final; Argentina over Brazil.

Yes, I think Messi can do it......

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Holey-moley!..... Didn't see that coming!....

I almost placed a bet on the first goal being an OG!

I absolutely HATE soccer, but I LOVE the world cup. I have no idea why!

With that said: If Brazil loses tonight I'm pretty sure someone will get shot or kidnapped :p

Lazy defending...but nice work by Modric to start that sequence.

I find myself rooting for Croatia. I have nothing against Brazil other than they have 1 more WC than Italy, but I love the underdog!!!

    +1 to all.

Oh! There we go!.... 1-1 as I was typing this!

FWIW, the host has never lost the opening match was what I was about to say....

It would be monumental if they lost - that goal really turned the tide.

WTF!?..... ITV (the UK broadcaster I'm watching) has decided *now* would be a good time to update their player..... 'Updates are normally completed in under an hour'....

****!.... I guess it's time to find it on the radio for a while. :-(

Not for me - OTA broadcasts only - I'm not gonna pay >$120 / month right now....

I'd happily pay for ESPN/Speed/NBCSN etc, but thats not possible it seems.... :(

    :D

It's just a shame the ref will be the story of this game.

I guarantee he won't be involved once we get to the knockout stage. [Maybe as a lino, but I doubt it. ;)]

Tom (#2 son) is still adamant that Neymar is not all he's cracked up to be.... I dunno, but I do think PK goals should be "scored" differently in their stats.

    Early start tomorrow:

Mexico - Cameroon at 9am Pacific! Should be good.
Spain - Netherlands at noon. This is, of course, a replay of the 2010 final. [That's never happened before.]
Chile - Australia at 2pm. I believe there's a few MLS guys in the Aussie team.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Not a great game to open the Cup. Day one, game one, the referee influences the outcome on a blown call. A sign of the times?

The ref blew it. Doesn't mean Brazil wouldn't have still won, but that ref should be banned...terrible calls the entire game.

    You guys should be here...

    We have liftoff!!!!

(Loved the game, pity the ref messed up that penalty call, but still a call's a call and we had to win the first one....)

Horrible call by the ref. I'm a big fan of replay and after the game IMHO FIFA should review the calls and if it determines that a player dived a la Fred then the player should be banned the next game. My 2 cents.....

To be fair, Modric was a little dramatic with his fall, so Fred's dive was fair play. Ref's call is the call, but it was bad.

I still think Brazil would have won it nonetheless.

Ok - El Tri...a laugher over Cameroon or is it close?
