can they do anything right? first they let Rice and others get away with "murder" before their world came crashing down. they seemed to be the last ones to realize the world had come crashing down. so by no choice of their own they were kind of forced into line. however, now they seem to be erroring with Adrian Petterson. Adrian did wrong and I can't argue with the NFL keeping him off the field in meantime. However, they seem to be going out of the way to keep him off field now and not giving him credit for previous 9 games out after charges turned out to be misdemeanor only. What Ray Rice did was so far beyond the line of wrong. Spanking is not illegal or wrong (opinion), although injury is, especially to a child. how wrong past the line were the injuries to his kid? intent? I never bled from being spanked, but certainly would get a few dark lines and bruises.

I just look at how the NFL has acted from start to finish and it seems like everything they do is wrong.

Let's not even talk about the injuries, steroids, and drugs yet.

The wife chose not to file charges.

    Who is the injured party?

Adrian's kid? Just because Ray's wife didn't file charges, doesn't mean Ray isn't in the wrong. High percentage of abused wifes and girlfriends won't file charges. No doubt Ray did extreme wrong.

Doing wrong is not necessarily a punishable offense.

I doubt Rays wife has battered wives syndrome. I think they are two ****ed up people in a mutually abusive relationship. She's had plenty of advice by now to file charges and/or divorce for her share of the pie.

Personally, I don't like the detailed intrusion in people's life's. Their private actions have no bearing on your or my life. They have the freedom to be as stupid as they want as long as their behavior does not infringe on our freedoms.

The wife married him after. It's ALL good, and everybody should butt out. That's a stamp of approval, and she apparently likes it.

As far as the NFL in general. They've lost it because it's a sanitized league now. I turned it off when those silly penalty flags started flying. Now all they need to do is put a women in the booth, and the destruction will be complete!

I hope you're not being serious, about the wife comment that is. As for flags, that's a different & in this context, less important issue. It is a shame that all the off field craziness is detracting from what I think is one if the most compelling NFL seasons in a while...T

The general consensus from just about every sports talking head is, just what the hell does Goodell do all day?

They make up rules as they go. How come the guy that drove drunk and killed his friend is allowed to enter the league again, yet rice, who had no known priors with the league or outside of it, and pretty much the same wi th peterson?

It should be up to the teams if they want to rehire players if they have been exonerated by the court of law.

I'm going to sound a bit controversial, but it all seems to be an attack on men. Why isn't Lolo Jones being held to public opinion like rice and Adrian Peterson? What about all the guys that get emotionally and physically abused? It does happen.

Why wasn't that ufc loser mentioned AT ALL!!!!! For nearly killing the pornstar when he bashed her face in? Is it because she's a pornstar? Ufc is extremely popular is it not? Sounds like certain groups and people only want things to apply in certain ways.

I think you might be thinking of Hope Solo, not Lolo Jones?

Agree that the biggest issue the NFL has is lack of consistency.

Good at least there's no misunderstanding.

I am dead serious. Where's her accountability? Why make excuses for her? That people spend hours talking about other peoples personal business is the sad part.

Geezus. Listen to you guys. Women in abusive relationships don't KNOW what else to do. Do you think she's got some high priced lawyer whispering in her ear? IF she did, she'd probably be long gone.

Abused spouses tend to stay in their abusive relationships. They don't get out.

As to the NFL? Every contract has a morals clause which has broad language. Interesting article here from a sports attorney.

Sign the contract, live with the consequences. In this instance, beating your child, even when negotiated down to a misdemeanor, would without a doubt violate the clause.

Just a matter of how much due process is in the player's contract or the overriding Union agreement with the league.

I agree, men need to push back every once in a while. Remember, Women are equal in EVERY way, so says my politically correct compass. :)

Fair enough, but it's intertwined. They have a HUGE problem, and it's only getting worse - chickens come home to roost.

Like a junkie, admitting to the problem is half the battle. Yet, because of all the money to be made, they won't - they can't detox.

It's a house of cards - unless somehow they admit that this is all a big freakin' issue, they'll burn slowly at first, until it rages.

How many parents want their kids playing football? The past few years trends show it decreasing around 5% per year in terms of participation:

Pop Warner youth football participation drops; NFL concussion crisis seen as causal factor - ESPN

That's a huge issue...will only get worse. This is a business, need to treat it as such.

Admit to the problem, then generate the solution. Even if it means taking a few steps backwards.

Where, or where, did you get that idea?

Women want equal opportunity, not equality in terms of strength, something they can not generally attain, and that's what we're talking about here. The physical ability to dominate another person. Try as you might, your argument holds no water.

Men are physically, on average superior, even to women who weigh as much as they do. Ratios or body fat to muscle, bone density, etc, all weigh heavily in favor of males of many species, not just homo sapiens.

Don't confuse equality with arm wrestling.

There are plenty of women that are equal to, or superior in strength to men. Fighting side by side on the battle field, construction work, fire fighters, officers of the law, UPS drivers which require lifting all day long, cage fighters. You tell them they're physically inferior to men and see how many friends you make. The minute you single them out as needing help you can be labeled a sexist. This is what your "equality" teaches. I feel sorry for men today, they don't know what the hell roll they're suppose to play.

Lol. That's not what I was trying to say. I'm not always the best at getting out what I really want to say.

He was joking. And I hope you didn't infer my comments as justifying or approving men hitting women. That's not what I was trying to say.

+1 Resorting to physical violence against someone to whom you already have monetary superiority is detestable. Man on woman, woman on man, or any other combo you care to name..T

The NFL this year has all sorts of issues.

One of the worst public relations nightmares they have faced in as long as I can remember.

    Horse poop.

Do you actually believe your drivel?

Take a 180 LB male cage fighter, put him up against a 180 LB female cage fighter, oops, down goes the female. Take a 180 lb female cage fighter and match her up against a 180 lb male desk jockey, you'll get a different result.

    Apples and oranges.

And most men know exactly what "roll" to play, sesame seed is best I think. :D

Back to the broad discussion of the NFL for a second.

How did the NFL become the arbiter of morality? This role was not thrust upon them by society? Maybe by the media? They (the NFL) appear to be both accepting the role happily and simultaneously ****ing up royally.
