Secretariat, one in a billion. The Bo Jackson/Jim thorpe of horses. Once in a generation Hopefully Pharoah can pull it off!
Told ya! So happy my whole family got to see what I saw thrice in the 70s, and they had never experienced. Just awesome. And a wire-to-wire victory, class & style all the way.
Awesome stuff! I'm glad I got to see this in my lifetime along with other sports-related droughts that have ended in the past one or two decades.
I think horse racing and shady characters seem to go back to the beginning, due to the gambling links. very exciting. secretariat will still remain the greatest of all time but American pharoah has earned a place in history!!!
Joe!!!! Thank you for the tip early on!!! I bet AP before the derby to win the TC. I feel like I need to send you a thank you gift Awesome call, for the 3rd year in a row!
Among American male horses, you may wish to check this guy out before crowning Big Red the GOAT. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle_Slew But yeah, very exciting day, and at least there's a new name to throw into the discussion...T Edit - Wife says no argument, Big Red, case closed, end of story!
No worries, I pick them for fun, I don't even bet myself, Ive just followed the historical aspect of the sport since @ 1972. Today is really a great day for American Sports.
I thought this was a nice pic. Time to add one more. For someone who grew up at the track & whose uncles all loved the sport of kings, those are legendary names, and they finally have new company...T
Pace makes race and he had it all his own way with an easy lead (look at the fractions), Victor rode a perfect race, and by the time Frosted tried to come to him in the stretch, he had another gear. The rest as they say, is history.
Great demonstration of what the horsey set call tactical speed. Espinoza was sitting chilly atop AP; when that horse challenged at the top of the stretch, AP put it into another gear, and zoomed off to what I thought I read was the 3 largest margin of victory T
