I'm waiting for the inside story on how that came about. I have to think the Broncos conceded that they won't seek compensation when he signs with another team.
Hopefully, but this is the NFL, you never know what a team like the Rams may offer him to be their transitional quarterback to whomever they draft this spring...T
I belive Peyton would have kept playing if he hadn't had such a lousy result in the games he played...many interceptions and very few tds. Then there are those who feel the substance abuse accusation and the sexual harrassment in college accusation were just too much. Not many believe Peyton can go another year without missing time for injuries. Would Browns, Texans and Rams really be interested? And would Peyton be INTERSTED IN THEM? Not likely any of them will go to the Super Bowl. Browns are the worst tem in their division. They have a new and to my mind an unproven coach to boot. Texans squeeked in thanks to a hapless Colts team and injured Luck. Next year Luck will likely be healthy and is a better qb than Peyton now. Rams will have a hard time finishing ahead of division rivals Seahawks and Cards. Peyton's best bet for another ship next year is Denver and that option is off the table now. So He may get a coaching job, a gm job, buy into a team, become a broadcaster or just hang out.
The retirement news conference is scheduled for 11 AM MST at Broncos headquarters. BTW no. 18 will be retired. It was Frank Tripukas number and was retired. He was the Broncos first qb. He gave permission for Peyton to wear it before he died.
I listened to his speech on the radio, very touching, a class act. I had the feeling he really didn't want to retire, and I still believe that. I think friends/family/NFL teams convinced him otherwise.
Since Elway became gm and then hired Manning no team has had more wins in the last four years than the Broncos. None. That's quite a record.
True, but history/casual fans are going to view PM differently now that he has two SB victories. First to win with multiple teams IIRC...T
Interesting that Brock was nowhere to be seen for the team picture at thenews conference. Perhaps only those with signed contracts were invited to attend...Brock hasn't signed yet.
With Peyton officially retired, young Brock & his agent are gonna play good old fashioned country hardball. Especially if Houston helps drive his price up...T
