California Chrome, our little Orange County (CA)-based colt became the richest racehorse of all time, by winning the Dubai World Cup on Saturday. I tipped him to win the Derby in 2014, and it has been special following this horse's career with my family, I remember dragging my son out of bed one morning to go and see him train even before he won the Kentucky Derby http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143080480-post16.html & http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143080482-post17.html which I thought he would do with ease. Now he has achieved what no other horse has, with earnings over $12,532,650! So glad I got to see him run. http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/98620/california-chrome-brilliant-in-world-cup-win Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Drama in the race as his saddle slipped far back in the home stretch, Victor showed skill & coolness and managed to stay on-board! This makes the effort even more amazing, as he simply blew the world-class field away Image Unavailable, Please Login

Um, we should have done that in 2013! In addition to his earnings, he'll probably be syndicated for stud @ 20-30 million +. A tidy profit for an $8,000 investment, no?
Wow. I was at the track once and the saddle slipped. It was quite the drama, even in a cheap claiming race, wondering if/when the jock would fall off. Good on Espinoza. And CC T
Just out of curiosity: In addition to this obviously being a great and very special horse.....how does the average racing fan feel about the out of control drug use in horse racing? Anabolic Steroids Still Issue in U.S. Racing | BloodHorse.com The comment by Ms. Benson literally had me ROFLMA - are these people for real? Racing Medication and Testing Consortium executive director Dionne Benson has described the industry's goal of keeping anabolic steroids out of racing, but allowing for their use when there is a therapeutic need for a horse out of training. "The racing industry is in agreement that racehorses should not compete on anabolic steroids," Benson said on the RMTC website. "In practice, that means that anabolic steroids must be withdrawn from a horse's medication regimen at least a month before its next race."
If you watch the replay, the saddle slipped turning for home as soon as Victor asked him he changed gears (leads) @ the quarter pole. He exploded right out of the saddle's girth!
It's just funny that the person in charge basically states: Anything goes. Which in itself wouldn't be such a big deal - there is just too much $$ involved - but trying to package it as "limiting drug use" when the sport makes MLB of the 1990's or cycling look like pre School athletics is unreal. On the upside: At least the playing field is level.
