The Euro's starts in 2 weeks time (10 June 10 July 2016) being held in France. Who do you think will win it this time round? Germany, Spain and France seem favourites followed by Belgium, Italy and England.
Gotta go with England! Although, I guess that's the heart rather than the head speaking...... A little surprised you're even aware of it! Cheers, Ian
Why would you say that? I started the Euro 2012 thread and 2010 world cup thread. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/sports/367030-uefa-euro-2012-a.html https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/sports/283640-2010-fifa-world-cup-south-africa.html
My sincere apologies. I even commented in said threads. Hopefully, we'll get some more voters soon! Cheers, Ian
I share your hopes Ian, but given the results of this year's English premiership, I am confident that Albania will lift the trophy, having beaten Iceland 11-10 in the final minute! In all seriousness, the Euro tournament does have some unusual winners from time to time. I am thinking Greece 2004 and Denmark 1992 particularly, when they were only in the tournament due to the disintegration of Yugoslavia....not long to wait....
Germany are favorites so long as Neuer's in the pipes. France and Belgium are strong teams. Spain and Italy are..."old", but can never count them out!
It's a different tournament now, with half of Europe invited to play, practically. That means more games, and a lesser chance for an underdog to win it. I can't see anyone beating the Germans, who probably only have to take it half seriously to win. Belgium may have a ton of talent, but I don't think they gel as a team, and won't get past the Semis without Kompany. England had better win their group, or they'll get stuck in the part of the bracket with all the tough teams, and go out in the quarters. Their offense is as alive as I've seen it in a while, they should be tough. But I also favored them in 2014, and they didn't last 2 games.
UEFA Championship was yesterday. Two teams from Madrid...Real and Atletico (sp?). Went down to penalty kick-off at the end. They were both great. Don't know how this translates to the Euro but Spain should be a contender. I remember Germany in the World Cup. Like a machine. My guess is these two.
Indeed a disgrace, somehow Netherlands failed to qualify for the Euro's which never featured so many teams. Some reasons I can think of; - Some (mostly long term) injury's of important players (Robben, Sneijder, Strootman, Vlaar, Van Persie, etc.) - different playing style than at the WC'14, back to the NL's usual 4-4-3 , instead of 5-3-2, which revealed the NL's defensive weaknesses a bit too often. - Especially in the first couple of qualy matches the spirit and concentration seemed off, players seemed to take it too lightly => underestimation. - A number of players went to new clubs after the World Cup, which also seemed to have it's effect on the above. - Some players thought they were better than they actually are after reaching the 3rd place on the WC'14, which was mainly "won" on commitment and teamwork. - Some bad luck/indivual players messing up (2 or 3 red cards), on of which in the 2nd half of the important 2nd match against Turkey, wenn the NL's still had matters in their own hands.
No love for Spain? Given they're generally considered the best league there is, that surprised me a little. I guess they have the same kind of problems as England; too many Furroners!.... I honestly believe there should be a limit on the # of foreigners that are allowed on each team/roster. I dunno, pick a #; 3, maybe 4 playing at any one time & maybe 6 or 8 on the squad. Should help the national side, whoever that may be. Cheers, Ian

A UEFA Euro cup without it wouldn't be the same, English underclass on tour: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jun/11/euro-2016-french-police-tactics-raise-fears-of-more-clashes-with-england-fans Marseille: Fan-Gewalt bei EM eskaliert - ein Mann in Lebensgefahr - SPIEGEL ONLINE Three days and a match of violence, before a Brexit, I'd say a English team Euro exit wouldn't go amiss. Besides, nobody would miss their footballing mediocrity.
Disgusting behaviour here with Russian 'fans' attacking England fans including women and children. UEFA probe underway, and Russia hosts the World Cup in 2 years time!!!! Euro 2016: Russia faces Uefa probe after England match violence - BBC News
True. But both England and Russia received a UEFA warning regarding their fans behavior, exclusion as a possible punishment. Three days of riots. just increcible.
I think it's unfair to remove either team from the competition, why punish the players and countless millions of fans cheering from their armchairs because of the actions of the knuckle draggers. Make them play in empty stadiums for the remainder.
