The ASR warning light has now appeared in the multifunction display.

I am not sure how to test if this is a real fault or due to battery low, i have charged the battery but if there is a cell out it can still show a voltage drop and kick out an ASR issue.

I have disconnected the ABS ecu rh footwell (RH drive vehicle) and left the battery off, unplugged the ASR cutout switch, no change, removal of the 15+ Automatic Transmisssion fuse in the forward fuse box stops the ASR light showing.

Does anyone have any ideas on what this may be due to, i will try and unplug the Transmission ECU's in the boot to see if they are triggering an ASR fault.

All views appreciated, bar take it to a dealer and get an SD check...that will be done, but once i have exhasted all avenues...

    Presuming you have a 456...

One of a few possible causes:
    1) The motor in the ASR unit could be burned out.
    2) The ecu in the ASR unit could be dead
    3) sensors in the hubs could be burned out (not sure if 456 has these)

SD check should tell you motor vs. ecu..

if it's the motor in the ASR/ABS pump.. you can probably get an Audi pump motor and bolt it in. You can try matching the Bosch # on the ASR pump/unit and get a matching #. Worst case, just buy a used unit.

Thanks for the info. Correct the offending Italian item is a 456

Was working fine last weekend and after leaving overnight the ASR light appeared. It has appeared on a few other occasions with a battery cell out.

Took aged to trace that as only under load did the battery fail.

I will check all avenues as suggested. A busy weekend ahead of I think!

ASR light on mine was always on. SD said it was a bad motor. Bought a used unit and went in fine, replaced the motor on the old one and now have a spare if I need it in the future!

    Thanks for the update.

Did this ever affect your gearbox. My auto box keeps going to limp home. Not sure if this is linked!

    Car in question 456M GTA.
