I have some 12 year old alarm fobs for my 360 that just seem to be so easy to corrode and have seen better days. I clean the corrosion off of the terminals and pop in a new battery and sure enough a couple months later I am starting to have signal strength issues. Then I am cleaning off the corrosion again. Is there a treatment I can perform to the contacts to get them like new again?

Am I the only one who has fob contacts that corrode where the battery makes contact?

I don't know, but I can say that both mine are 14 years old and they're nice and clean. But I'm also pretty sure the batteries have never been left in them so long that the batteries leaked; i.e. they've been changed as soon as they become weak.

I have the same problem with my 456 fobs.

    1) Remove the leather cover, which holds moisture

    2) Clean contacts with light abrasive, like a pencil eraser.

    3) Apply contact cleaner.

    4) Apply contact grease to repel air / oxygen.

    5) Keep a tool in the glove box to open the fob.

    6) Keep a spare battery with the tool.

Kevin- I put battery terminal spray, the red stuff, on a toothpick and coat the terminals. No problems, but then we did have 8% humidity last week.

Kevin- That stuff has a lot more uses than fobs. Incidentally, I only use Duracell MN21Bs in my fobs because I have never had one of those leak. Have pulled out several other manufacturer's leaking batteries in used fobs that have passed through my hands.

Taz, I pulled my first leaking Duracell out of an LED flashlight the other day. Always thought they were "unleakable" but that bubble has now been burst too. Still think they're probably better than any other battery (as far as leakage goes).

if you can find a small silica gel package that will go inside the fob it will keep the moisture from corroding the contacts

works good in storing cameras also, I have it in my waterproof camera cover to prevent fogging and corrosion

look for the package in your vitamin or aspirin bottle they are usually small
