It's listed in the Houston CL, but location says Austin.

A FB friend flagged to me, "They just need batteries, they all ran, when parked."

SURE they did... there is a rare "chopped 308 convertible" in there.
    Rare, for GOOD reason!!

Someone find the link, I am no good at that stuff!

I just passed the link along to our chapter Pres. to see if we have any info on whose these are and where exactly they are located. Maybe someone local with the money/time/space will take them in as projects.

Yeah, as soon as it hit my local group the listing came down. Some astute members are claiming it must've been a scam, scurrying away once the local chapter got eyes on the listing. We'll probably never know for sure.

I didn't get the sense that it was a scam, although I guess it could have been. Probably overwhelmed with a deluge of inquiries, including a large number asking "Why????"

It's not a scam. I didn't see the cars myself, but a friend did, sending me lots of pictures and info. Very very interesting stuff. To give you an idea, an 83 400i in yellow, Straman conversion. But all has been sitting for a long time.

These sound like some that were dubbed "all but abandoned" in Austin back in 2008-2009 or so. The yellow "Straman" 400 jogged my memory.
I have to wonder if it's the same group of cars, being liquidated because of death, bk, divorce, etc.

Thanks for the info, Randy and Brian. I bounced it off Dave Moore, figuring he would know of any big groups sitting around town, especially 308s, but he wasn't aware of them. Nice to have at least a little background and confirm it was legit.

Going to discuss this with some friends this evening and play with some slot cars.

If we pass, I'll post up some pics and info from the findings. If you want to stop on by and play over some beers, drop me a line and I'll tell you where. (Brian and Jeff have both been there before)

    This is legit -- there are 7 Ferraris; 456, 348, 400i Cab, 308QV, 308GTS Cab, Mondial, 3.2Mondial Spyder

I personally viewed them Monday night.

Overall they are in a sad state of affairs.

    I'm a Porsche guy. I am interests in the 348 and 456
But no interest in the others.

Only wanted to sell as complete set.

The 400i was missing the windshield and the interior was shot due to the elements.
The paint had pock marks all over.

The yellow mondial is a repaint over red and some of the repaint is flaking off.

The 308 spyder looks rough, paint pock marks especially along conversion.

The white 308 has a red interior but the rear window is missing and the interior suffered mild issues, leather very hard. The lower door sills showed evidence of rust.

Couldn't open 348 trunk/frunk. Interior looked rougher than mileage would indicate.

3.2 mondial looked ok, inside top had lots of mold , didn't sit inside.

All engines I could see had aluminum oxidation.

The 456 was under a carport with what looks to be an 05 inspection sticker
It was so caked over with crud, I can only guess the color was blue. No keys at the time
So no way to get inside or see beyond surface.

Most of the cars look like they had suffered paint issues due to tarps and/elements.

In general the view made me sick to my stomach.... What a waste of cars.

thats all I can remember off the top of my head.

    Mike

The 400i is #46859. It was sold in Austin in May of 2007. I'm not so sure about the "Straman" conversion claim. The car was claimed to have once been owned by Tex Schram which is where I believe the confusion comes from.

And yes, sad state of cars. Would love to have the 348 as a parts car, esp for that price. Unsure if it would be worth the price getting it working again.

What was the price for the 348? I never heard individual prices -- just a group pricing,
which I heard was bid north of $125k.

lonestar might have the contact info. I have the address, but not wise to post that up here.

I did hear the number, and it wasn't that high. But it was, as you stated, for all the cars, and will not separate.

The seller sent me an email earlier today stating that he had a high offer of $130K for the group. It really is sad to see them all in that condition. :(

Looks like a huge can of worms. Good luck to that guy throwing $130k at it. Better call Ferrari and see how many parts you need aren't available first if your dreaming of fixing those things.

    I agree.

It will be interesting to see if they are still there in a month.

That is twice the price an exotic junker would even consider for ones in better condition. I'd expect in that shape to be about $35-40k max for the group. Only someone with time and parts ready would even attempt to put them in some running shape let alone ready for show.

    waste all around.

I guess as long as the seller keeps getting folks blowing in his ear with big numbers -- they'll keep sitting there rotting away.

At some point those sweet whispers need to be backed up with hard cash -- then we'll see what the real value is.
