See the quote of my earlier post on page 1 - Roadtripguy's dad told me the what (but not the when) about the windscreen and body damage and replacement at Goodwood in '95 - and the shape of the P4 windscreen was discussed in the 'other' threads.....
it's almost single-curvature, but with a little double-curvature section at the top to fair it into the roof, which David Piper told me once was the thing about the shape he likes most.

Sorry, Paul - I'd missed that first paragraph. When I made that post (#49) I was sure we had discussed #0850's 'non-standard' windshield before. Just couldn't remember exactly where. :(

Two photos of #0850, from the Goodwood 'Festival of Mud' in '97. I was there, but these aren't my photos:

That's why you should copy and paste any significant new posts into 'Notepad' or a Word doc. - before they mysteriously disappear.

On (a less happy) occasion, I've even had my own posts deleted before my very eyes - lesson learned. ;)

A couple more photos of #0850 at the '67 Daytona 24 Hours, taken by the late Jabby Crombac, in the garages and during a pitstop ....

You and me both, Pete .... :D However, fortunately, yesterday - 'a little bird' sent me a reminder. :)

Where we'd had previous similar #0850 discussions - wasn't on FerrariChat, but on the AtlasF1 Nostalgia forum, back in August 2005 ....

.... in a thread aptly titled: Ferrari P4 on the streets of LA early 1970s?

    See: http://forums.autosport.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=81976

Forgetting the odd bit of bickering and sniping (no names mentioned :D) there's some really good additional input in that thread ....

    .... and I uploaded the full-sized scans in post #13: http://forums.autosport.com/showthread.php?postid=2125582#post2125582

I have to check my records but I think it's possible that the "Mirage 10003" in that link was rebuilt into GT 40 1075 which won Le Mans in 68 and 69 as Group 5 Sports Car not a Prototype which after 67 were reduced to 3 liters.

Notice I wrote 'event' rather than 'race' .... ;)

Reason being, that in most of those photos, #0850 is wearing the gold-painted Campagnolo 5-spokes that it ran in (the dry) practice ....

(Note also the missing #11 from the front roundel - as per the B&W photo at the top of this page - post #61).

.... whereas for the (wet) race, Ecurie Francorchamps elected to run the car on the narrower (light blue-painted) Dunlop 'P3' wheels ....

Dickey Attwood told me that the start was held up and they were stopped on an incline and ran the fuel out of the carbs on 0854. He tried to start it but couldn't get it going. He released the brake and rolled down to the the flat where the pump could grab the fuel and he was able to get away. He told me that he thinks he would have won if he hadn't stalled on the start. The points that 0854 brought home that day were very important to Ferrari as in the end they just won the mfg. Championship.

Good strategy, reducing the contact patch in the rain.....used it myself.

We didn't have 'wets' so my crazy Crew Chief blew the slicks up into a crown and slapped my helment to 'go'......LOL!

I felt like I had ballet shoes on...but we won.

Unfortunately .... sometimes TOO big, Jim !! :(

Of course, 412P #0850's race, at Spa in '67 ended when the ever hard-charging 'Wild Willy' Mairesse ran out of road.
The car was all but a write-off and was returned to the factory for repairs - which they were unable to complete in time for Le Mans.
.... Hence the 'loaning' to Ecurie Francorchamps of the works 330P4 (the N° 24 car, red with yellow stripe - discussed elsewhere).

I found this very interesting painting of the aftermath of Mairesse's Spa accident, by French artist Thierry Mebarki, here:

http://www.cpcars.com/Englishversion/Artforsale.htm (unfortunately, that part of the site was never updated again).

The artwork looks very much like it was painted from an original photograph. I wonder if anyone has a copy still ?

Not really that much in the way of unique factoids, but this is a very poignant quotation:

"Peter Revson once described the intensity of Mairesse before a race at Spa, Belgium. Revson looked into his car and saw Mairesse's furrowed face, beetled brows, and eyes which were almost tilted and their color changed. It was almost like looking at the devil."

This is interesting. Remember in the 0846 papers where CP said he had personal knowledge of chassis plates being switched?
He was the crew chief on 0850 and due to the inability to get it ready for Le Mans (0856/0858?). I'll talk to him further about this.
I bet a photo of 0850 post crash exists.
