The web site has a mixture of test and race photos. Just look at the galleries over the pits, just a few people missing for the race weekend. Gramps
I was aware of that. The person who took the pictures categorized them in 3 portions: 1 for the Wednesday trials: http://picasaweb.google.com/jyhelbe56/1967ESSAISMERCREDI24HEURESDUMANS# 1 for the thursday trials: http://picasaweb.google.com/jyhelbe56/1967ESSAISJEUDI24HEURESDUMANS# . This is where jim posted this picture of 0854 in the stands: http://picasaweb.google.com/jyhelbe56/1967ESSAISJEUDI24HEURESDUMANS#5375664532293443698 (hence the fewer people). 1 finally for the race: http://picasaweb.google.com/jyhelbe56/196724HEURESDUMANS# where I posted the picture of 0854 racing: http://picasaweb.google.com/jyhelbe56/196724HEURESDUMANS#5376053883564390914 Best.
This is indeed one of the best threads in FerrariChat... What a project Jim, well done. How "authentic" will this be in the eyes of Ferrari or a Judge at Pebble? _J
So I imagine she is no targa-top in the traditional sense, and there isn't one piece that simply pops into place to maker her a Coupe. What original bits are you using in order to carry out such an extensive project? Who is doing the bodywork? I understand the name of the thread, my uncertainty is in weather or not a body-off restoration makes a car "original." Converting a previously roof-less Ferrari into the Coupe form which it was originally, in my ignorant opinion, seems only like a second conversion; one however, that would allow for an "original" look. _J
Jim, thanks for sharing the experiences. These cars are fragile! Respect for the men who drove them flat-out on the Mulsanne-straight! They had guts! Any idea on the weight of the bare chassis?
0854's original coupe body tail is what's being reinstalled. The Spyder tail that was previously affixed was never original to 0854 but was 0858's Spyder Tail affixed after the 1967 racing Prototype season ended not by Ferrari. At that point Ferrari had converted P4 0858 into 350 Cam 0858 and having no futher use for 0858's original P4 Spyder tail sold it.
We're mounting new tires on 0854's original wheels. Note how these wheels were originally painted Gold but were over sprayed Blue later to distinguish them in the Pits from the other P cars wheels and tires. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Gold wheels look just awesome on these cars. The look compliments several of the 60s and 70s models also. I saw a Daytona with gold wheels and more recently, a Dino. Both looked fabulous. Looking awesome Jim
After careful research we learned that at Brands Hatch the wheels were only painted blue on their rims and that the previous owner of 0854 had them wrong so we restored them to their proper colors. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nope. We thought so to but we have an original color photo taken during the race that shows gold centers as it had at the previous race. As the side window is broken out it has to be during the race.
I think one can assume that there were more sets of tyres and wheels available for this car during the race. In an old footage about the BOAC 500 0854 came along with entire blue wheels prior to the race. Another picture shows the blue/gold wheels. I like the entire blue wheels the most.
Yes, 0854 came to the BOAC 500 with blue wheels. And there were several sets of wheels, like 1967 Le Mans 24 hours (entire blue, gold with blue rims) or like 1967 Spa (entire gold wheels, P3 gold wheels etc etc) I prefer too the entire blue wheels... They probably had several sets and one set was all blue and one set was blue rim and gold center. Maybe rains were one way and drys another. I'm also thinking of going with SPA livery as that was her most successful race.
As I said, at Spa, on 0854, wheels were all gold painted and P3 all gold wheels were also used on rain. Never saw a pic showing blue rims or blue wheels on 0854 at Spa. Only 0850 had all blue P3 wheels on rain at Spa...
