Aiming for first public viewing at the Encinitas Eco-Fest May 17. (EcoFest Encinitas) Progress: 1st set of pulleys at the machine shop (to connect top two motors to main shaft). New axles and CV joints being ordered today.... 17 1/2" axle shafts are an odd length.. But the 930 CV is a clean fit! Motor mounting in progress... finalizing mounting system for triple motor installation. Wiring is being completely overhauled. 85% of typical systems are out. New fuse block with resettable breakers and looks like we can use the relay panel but may swap out for lighter and newer relays. Thanks Brian Geraci for the custom lug bolts with a black ceramic finish. Thin and strong finish. Really keeping an eye on weight figures...... want to come in under factory curb with a close distribution comparison on all four corners.... It sure is nice to be located @ 1 mile from top custom badge design/manufacturer: Steve and team @ Billet Badges in San Marcos, CA. All three badges on this project needed help..... Here is what they did... Quality exceeds OEM results..... Here are some photos. We are adding new gauges on the project. Just designed a new face plate that we will send off to water jet after we bond the Cabon Fiber onto the Aluminum back. It is a simple cluster with a custom Amp Meter (modified small RPM gauge) top center. More to follow as this element comes together. Correct. speedhut.com. Really nice set up. It has auto digital features built in: for 1/4 mile, 0- certain speeds etc.
Cleaning up the last of the toasted interior parts for the interior restoration. Tedious cleaning process but doing it right...... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
for some reason your post did not link the images properly...I cleaned up the text and now its linking. Any images from the unveiling at the ecoFest?
Thanks Michael. Here're the photos without a link. I will stick to the computer for uploads! Anything that has heat smells and this restoration will be without any "burn". Acetone, wire brush and a lot of fine detail work to get the aluminum back to original..... minus time and use. All the interior trim is ready for leather...... . Stay tuned.. pics of the EV Fest coming up.... and we are on fast track to get it done for LS Re-Fuel...... The G50 is now installed (upside down and backwards) with the new axles and CV's. The plug has been drilled and tapped to accommodate the vent on what was the bottom of the G50. A new plug with a magnet is now in what was the vent. The PMS shifter kit is installed with lots of bracket mods to accommodate our shop mod short nose G50. It fits really well. We can swap the OEM exhaust cover for a custom rear grill.... without tail pipe holes. The shifter fits well into the original spot and we are working out how to replicate the iconic shift gate. Hutch - Everything looks amazing, but I'm just wondering if the half shafts are connected to the hubs in that pic of the G50 unit. I can't entirely tell what I'm looking at, but - if so - how does the geometry compare with the stock connections between half shafts and differential housing? I only ask because the angle looks much steeper here. Is that just because they're sagging with the car hoisted? I don't remember them appearing to pitch down so much. With all that power you'll be making, I was worried about stress on those joints.
The shafts are connected now on both sides. We used standard 930 CV's on 17.5" half shafts. The picture shows the position fully dropped as it is on the lift. Actual operating range will be in a range a few degrees below flat. The operating position is well within the 930 specs. Will try to get a few closer pictures when we drop it back down. Final adjustments will be made when we put the full load into the car over the next 2 weeks.
Not only was it a custom Aasco Aluminum flywheel, but now even lighter courtesy of master machinist @Fastmill. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
New rear "heat" shield to compliment the EV project. No muffler. No heat. Some vent airflow required. So here is SRD's creation in the works. Screening and powder coating pending. Looks insane so far. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Here is estimated axle info: ride height about 8 degrees - loaded. CV's are offered designed so they won't lock up and will have max travel distance. Max suspension travel est 6-14 degrees -. Its is really tight and design specs sweep way more. Axles are really inside of design specs. Not sure of original angle but are a little up... but not much and well within specs and frame capacity.
OEM vs. New. Lots of options at Speed hut but we opted for simple. Space to work a couple things into the cluster face. No Control gauges "visible". Fuel or "BATT" gauge going next to former clock position. More photos to follow. What do you think? The AMP gauge.... really cool... and insane mode?? drop the pedal and watch the amps. Speed Hut was spot on with their support of the project and fast delivery. Water jet the aluminum and carbon fiber to make a new cluster face BTW. If anyone is considering visiting Eric, I highly recommend you do. I don't have time to write up a whole lot right now, but what a cool guy. I dropped by unannounced and Eric was more than happy to show me around and show off some of his work...he's got some talented guys working for him. Thanks Eric for taking the time and hope to see you again soon. I'll write up some more soon... Henry
Henry- Thanks for dropping in. Wish I could say im the brains but thats not the case! Credit due to Michael @ EV West. WO his oversight, end to end Resto-mod and conversion would not happen. What a project! More updates as we progress.
Strategic Racing Designs here in San Diego did a great job on this piece. Yet another unexpected task resulting from the conversion aspect of the project. Just no way to use the OEM rear heat shield/grill. We held the original up to the car only to realize that there was no way in h*** could we use it....really awkward looking... So much for fake tail pipes.... It was 2x to deep vertically and way out of place with our mods. The new design lines are awesome. It will provide a nice screened view of the Patrick Motor Sports shifting linkage on the reversed nose of the G50 transaxle when installed.
