Wow what a crazy Indy500!! Alonso so close yet so far

GREAT win by Ferrari!

Vettel was very fast!

 

pretty perfect result, from my point of view - until such time as Dan is in a Ferrari seat.
I might have to revise my dream of seeing an Italian driving a Ferrari win at Monza to an Australian-Italian etc...

 

and the entire world will know that his Honda engine failed, meanwhile few will realise (or be told) that Sato won in a Honda engined car.

Alonso drove a brilliant race and made some audacious overtakes, but he wasn't quite aggressive enough on the restarts. However he was well and truly in with a chance when his engine went.

Lucky escape for Scott Dixon too, that was a horrible accident. Like seeing Wehrlein's car up against the barrier at Monaco (F1 use the SAFER barriers developed for Indy btw) and not knowing if his head was impacted. They need to mandate wider mirrors...

 

And many won't know that the Honda Indy engines are designed and built in the US by the Honda American division based in California, unlike the Japanese based F1 effort in Sakura.

 

plenty of factory involvement though, I've been in the garage of Dale Coyne racing while several japanese engineers in Honda gear fussed over the engine...

 

Now that's an interesting bit of info!

 

Well if both drivers had not had stupid crashes they might still have had mechanical failures ... maybe that is why Vandoorne crashed, ie. over the radio he was told that the engine was about to fail and to crash on purpose to save embarrassment to Honda

As for Button's crash ... wtf was he thinking? He was slow (er than Vandoorne) all weekend and then bent the car ... should have stayed away IMO.

Well both crashes were silly, especially Vandoorne's ... finally had a chance to finish and score points and he understeers off at slow speed, straight after a safety car period. Man McLaren cannot get a break!

Not meaning to be negative, but as a McLaren fan (my second team) I was disappointed ... again

He behaved like a loose cannon and shouldn't have been allowed to play

 

Plenty had trouble after the safety car, Daniel juuuuuuuust got through turn 1.

 

He followed that Sauber for the whole race and it's Tyres had gone off by about lap 5.

F1 Monaco Grand Prix: Kimi Raikkonen Sebastian Vettel Ferrari war

 

Kimi was too slow when they reached cars to be lapped. If Ferrari had not pitted them, they might not have won the race ... IMO.

Also when did Ferrari start not having a 1 & 2 driver? I always thought Kimi was the number 2.
