So I took the fuel pump assembly out. Next problem was the tank filler neck pipe. If there was no hose there is about 1 inch between the top of the fuel tank and the fuel filler pipe. The hose is about 3 inches and doesn't bend very well. So how do you install it ? Next I tried removing the fuel filler pipe bracket and attaching ithe pjpe to the tank. If the rubber gromet isn't there you can sorta bend the hose and jam the fill pipe through the hole. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here is how I eventually did this. There are 6 connections to this tank. Two on the bottom, the fuel pump and crossover. These seemed easy enough to hook up with the tank in place. On the top there are four. From back to front the fill pipe, and then small, medium and large for the evap pipe, accumulator return and upper crossover respectively. The evap and accumulator were off the car and I felt I could install these with the tank in place. The upper crossover and fill pipe were "on the car" therefore the tank was going to have to slide into them, rather than the other way around. Plus the electrical connection for the gauge. First I got the upper crossover pipe sorta connected on the front. Don't have a pic of that.
Electrical connections. Plus two blue pipes. One goes to the filler pipe and the other to the large at the front of the tank. The large has been started. I.e. Waiting to be pushed home when the tank is pushed in Image Unavailable, Please Login
Some tips for working with taps: Drill out the hole to the correct starting size - look it up online - something like this one: https://www.physics.wisc.edu/ishop/images/tapdrillchart.jpg For a 1/2" thread use a 15/32" drill bit. Then use the correct sized tap at the start, don't "work up to it". Then start tapping the hole. Make sure you lube up the tap with some cutting fluid or grease. Have your tap perpendicular to the hole and push and turn. Go 1/2 a turn in and then 1/4 turn out. Keep going until you're done. The 1/4 turn back will knock off the swarf and stop you breaking the tap (or handle in this case )
Hi Chris. This is very helpful. Many thanks. Hopefully I will have the same luck with the other manifold!
I applied some grease around the grommet. Then with the large hose sorta started and the filler pipe attached to the tank I sorta pushed the tank in place and twisted the filler hose up through the greased grommet. This was hard as the grommet had the tendency to pop out of the hole. So it took several attempts but I got it in the end. Really need threee hands for this ! (So no picture!). This is reinstalling the fill hose bracket. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Then hang the clutch plate onto the pegs and hand tighten a few of the bolts. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Using the socket extension line up the center of the friction plate. Then I put the bell housing back on to check the friction plate was lined up correctly Image Unavailable, Please Login
