Apparently yours isn't the only one... see 2:20 in this video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZmiTKlkh84

Quote from the video: "When you're driving along at moderate speeds, the carbon ceramic brakes make this (squeaking) noise... it's almost as though there's a nest of birds somewhere inside the car, and the mother has come back with a beakful of worms, and they're all going crazy tweeting like mad..."

Stopped reading when interior called out for being poorer than 458... absolute BS

I have driven 488/458 back to back to back many times. Regardless of your subjective prefences, the 488 is an objectively better car. End of story.

... Only if you like squeaks from the brakes, and whistles from the (turbo) engine.

Squeaky breaks are as much if not more of an issue on 458. The problem is equal on all CCM breaked cars

That thread references brakes that squeak while braking...
The issue referenced in this current thread relates to brakes squeaking while driving, and NOT while braking....
    Two entirely different issues...

Actually there is a point here. I have noticed this and tried to work out what is going on. It seems that there is a sort of pre-loading system on the brakes, a little like the 675 LT. You can see the elements that create this behind the disc - I think they are keeping heat in the disc during certain types of driving. It is not an issue, nor as loud as the 458's pedal-applied brake squeal, it just seems to be the advance of technology.

As for noise from the turbo engine, turbo whine is very faint and often undetectable. The other noises are all good though. Even the turbo adds to the drama in some kind of way. There is so much performance on offer that this car will need to be well built and sturdy to take the punishment that motor can dish out. Happily, my 2 week old car, now with 2k miles on, is solid and beautifully built.

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo was a leader and a visionary... That alone made him a far more effective boss for Ferrari than Sergio. Add to that, his many years in racing, and his direct experience in working with Enzo Ferrari, and you have the ingredients and deep understanding for what has brought Ferrari to where it is today, and made many great cars along the way:

This video highlights a few of the important things that "Luca says"...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3Lb8phIBL8

Be sure to pay close attention to the parts in the video where he talks about passion and design... and what SHOULD happen when you start the engine.

    Too funny! This thread gave me a good laugh :) :) :) :) :) :)

Don't try and sell Carlo on the 488. Remember, his daily is a 15 year old BMW M3. This man had extraordinary taste!!!! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

I had the opportunity to test drive the 488 very recently.

As you may know, I love the 458 and I'm Carlo's friend: I truly respect his opinion, have learned a lot from him (and still keep learning), and Carlo has always helped me A LOT.

Here's my personal opinion regarding the 488:

    - HUGE torque (50% more than the 458 and yes, you CAN tell! Wonder how long rear tires last)
    - HUGE speed (although it annoys me that I can rev it past 7k something rpm)
    - GREAT brakes (namely when cold, seem to be more effective than the 458)

    Long story short:

    - I think the 488 is much better than most negative critics are ready to reckon.

    - For those who are familiar to the 458, the difference isn't that big.

And now, before you all kill me for writting that last sentence, please give the chance to explain:

It's getting increasingly difficult to awe clients and increasingly difficult to get a tech breakthrough, as opposed to the 80s or 90s, when there was a lot of ground to cover in terms of engineering and aerodynamics, for instance.

The difference between a given model and its predecessor is getting smaller. If you skip a model (for instance, go from an F430 to a 488, or from a Modena to a 458) yes, you'll be swept off your feet. Otherwise, in my personal opinion, I wouldn't pay extra for 100hp more and 50% more torque because the 458 has other attributes that are greater than ephemeral attributes.

I would still have a 488. If a GTB, it'd be Giallo with Nero interior. If Spider, Blu Corsa. But only if it means NOT handing over my 458.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

I certainly not looking at the power increase but the style. IMHO the 488 looks better.
Its a rear engine and not seeing nostrils on the side of the 458 was a huge negative.
    Front bumper too wedgy.
    Those horrible front fins.
3 tail pipe is as attractive as the up and over on the California.
These were MY issues not buying the 458.

Amazingly the Speciale dropped all these its ? Hum . Maybe Ferrari thought the same as me ?

IMO the 458 looks better than the 488
On the 488 I don't care for door handles
458 has smooth body, vs 488 turbo intakes makes it less pleasing to the eye
The front of 488 looks more like Lamborghini, I am Ferrari guy
The 488 has the rear lights look like a black eye
3 pipes on 458 very nice tribute to the icon
The sound on 458 wow! Turbo can not come close, but 488 sounds good, not great.
Inside is about same, ok buttons spaced differently on tunnel
2.9 sec for 488 vs 3.4 ( 3.0 with launch control) to me not worth the extra$
I agree with Nuno, not enough highlights ( actually more negatives) to jump ship ( go from 458 to 488)
I will keep my 458 for now, and if all ferrari's now going to turbo direction I will not trade my 458 in the future. What's next CF tub, hopefully not.

    :)

My Spider's spec is Rosso Scuderia btw ;)
Here she is on day 2 :)

Fwiw I think the car is a convincing long distance runner, engine
comes to it's own on the freeway, especially between 6 and 7.5K
    redline.

Pulls like a freight train over 120 mph, quite impressed with torque
at high speeds and satisfying high pitch turbine wail in tunnels in the 6K +
    rpm range in

Car feels somewhat unstable beyond 120 mph, and steering has some play.

Still feel bad for whoever invested 350K + USD on this..

Can't wait to try the coupe!!

    Ciao a tutti!!

No sympathy here my friend haha!!

Great car to cover distance with, comes to it's own as a GT
imho actually, fast and comfortable but so-so high speed handling.

Other good point: I like the styling of the rear of the car and rear engine
cover (cf last pic in my previous post) as much as I dislike the front haha

Bottom line is that I would rather buy a Huracan Spider than a this any day
of the week: never thought I'd say that LOL

    More pics to come!!!

Fwiw my Spider squeaks upon braking and when driving normally
as well, perhaps an issue with both the brakes and the rear suspension
being badly oiled or the like.

I have come to accept this but the squeaks are so prominent that it is
embarrassing in city driving, like driving with an army or crickets on
    board LOL

She even squeaks when driving on the freeway at 70-80 mph..
Perhaps GTB stands for Grande Topo Bello ;)

Never had or heard of a squeak issue of such magnitude on a 458,
save slight squeaks upon breaking that soon disappear.

    very best
