Anybody remmeber the ice racing in Lake Orion, MI in'50s?

For a book forward, I was trying to recall when I first saw a Porsche. I think it was around 1952 at Lake Orion, a lake North of Detroit. They had these little lanes carved out in the snow and the Porsche 356 coupes were dominating and I remember being shocked when I was told how expensive they are and I asked my dad why anyone would want to pay so much for such a little car. IU am curious to know what years they raced there and if anyone has any pictures....
