yes, I talked to both drivers, Bob Dini and Sam Posey.
Sam Posey has hardly any memories about the Nart-Dino. The problem is he sat every weekend in a different race car....

    Hi Matthias:

I suggest you reach out to John Fenning, co-founder at Willans for information about the racing harness that was used on your Dino.

    Info: History
    Phone: + 44 (0) 1327 857788

While the business is now run by Simon Perkins, I am hopeful John can still be reached as he started supplying racing harnesses to F1 teams in 1969 and is likely a good resource to assess what was being used on your car based on the photo supplied and his understanding of the racing harness landscape 45 years ago.

    Cheers,

    Keith

    Freeman,

Fascinating links to tire shaving and custom carving. I had no idea this was even available (I'm sure its not cheap) and certainly might come in handy one day for concours prep of special cars!! Thanks.

I have something that looks exactly like this in a Beck Spyder I have. It doesn't have the shoulder belts, but the lap belt has the same mechanism.

In the late 1960's the use of seat belts in racing was not widespread so there were not a lot of manufacturers to turn to. The seat belt makers got many of their supplies from the military who used belts in fighter aircraft and it was the military that developed the hook and loop quick release that was part of early racing. As such military surplus stores and websites could be a goldmine for belts.

Another avenue to pursue are vintage sprint car racers. These were among the first adopters of seat belts as the cars were caged and would roll regularly. Again these were military derived units and I am certain there is a market out there among the vintage sprint car crowd.

From the Sam Posey photo I would say that those belts were 2 inch models which were much more popular in the day (3 inch was quite rare). If you are very keen you may want to contact All American Racers in Santa Ana California. They have been around since the 1950's building race cars and there are still some original employees there. The place reads as a who's who of motorsport and I would be certain that they could point you in the right direction.

I couldn`t find the last eight Angst clamps 41mm need to be complete for my Nart-Dino....
A friend of mine is in the process to do some reproductions, but couldn`t deliver yet...
So I decided to help myself, as the engine will go into the Dino next month....
I found some similar 41mm clamps last year in Padova, current Italian production....
I modified them, now the look almost like the original ones.

    first picture:
    right: current Italian production
    middle: my conversion
    left: original Angst clamps

Are Angst clamps such a complicated item to source?
By what you say Matthias, it appears to be so.
I have a few, but clearly more must be missing from my stock, and it might be a good project to look into.

I am almost certain we can remake them, as there is a custom spring maker here, and the barrels can be made on a lathe.

Would stainless steel be suitable? Are the clamps a special spring steel?

What sizes are the most sought after? How many per car?

    Regards, Alberto

Matthias that ignition box looks gorgeous...very inspirational, I can't hardly wait to start polishing my own ignition box now.

I like your home made Angst type clamps as well. Can the wire clamps you use as base component be sourced via the internet or will I have to travel to Italy?...(Could be a handy excuse to present for my wife for yet another trip to Ferrari land).

    Regards Peter

Peter, I didn`t find the wire clamps on the Internet, Italy.... ;-)
I found them in Padua, but can`t remember the dealer
I will have a look this year again....
but I`m sure they are Italian production, so someone from Italy might know...?!
    Regards Matthias
