    I just wonder how much planning goes into these flights. I have seen several cool ones over the years including one 5-10 years back tracing out "Boeing" along with the corporate logo.

    It wouldn't be difficult to do at all.... If I were to want to do so,thing similar would take about 30 mins to build up the flight plan and check it against any special use airspace to be sure it wouldn't be rerouted. I guess you would probably need to be sure there weren't any significant meteorological activities that day that would be in the way. Then you call the apropriate centers and tell them you are flying a specific route for flight test purposes just to help pave the way. After that it's just a matter of politely declining being sent direct each time you pass into a new center. It really wouldn't be that tough as long as you are ok with filing to a whole bunch of coordinates.
