Yes the templates are invaluable (again many many thanks), Al is obsesseive about panel gaps, so the doors are taking a while to get the gaps and alignment spot on. You can see this in the way the lamps now fit from where they were when we started.
Hopefully some new stuff in the next few days, the doors are really holding up progress on final priming and flatting prior to paint.
Hi Ken bit further to go yet, the whole car will be gone through with a few improvements along the way. It has to be said build quality was not the best when they were new! Certainley in terms of fit and finish quite a long way off say a Ferrari of equivalent age.
Main body now ready for the final primer coats, and the NACA ducts in the doors have been re-constructed using templates sent by Joey. Notice the variety of cars Al re-paints, quite awesome the variety in the shop. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fantastic thread and great job! As stated above, these cars were hand built and the fabrication was not the best even when new. Unfortunately, this suffered from some high school body shop repairs. Makes you wonder what lurkes underneath other cars! Considering a Countach as my next car, and this is a great eye opener. The car looked decent in photos, with some paint issues. Really makes considering auction cars a scary proposition.
This one new to anyone? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFiertl3fv8]Lamborghini Countach By Walter Wolf - YouTube[/ame]
Well on the road to being sorted out correctly now, the high school repairs were part of a circa 12k paint job only 7 years ago. Al commented that the actual paint was very well done..... the repairs however less so.
Side panels back from the trimmer. Leather was matched to the seats and the perforated speaker grilles punched in to replace the after market speakers. I have a new set of alpine speakers and a NOS Alpine head unit to go back in. Doors should be finally finished next week! The metal lines are breathers for the cooling system, we repalced them whilst the roof was off as a precuation as they would be near impossible to chnage with the roof in situ.
Thanks for the reply I can see why if they leak, they could cause a bit head scratching! Cheers Graeme
Doors almost complete now, does anyone have a clear picture at the front quarter of the door where the 1/4 glass is, as the doors do not appear to be the same on both sides where the weather strips terminate at the triangle?
Doors now complete, and paint underway! We have decided to paint the joints then assemble before final primer and then paint as a whole. We have decided to do it this way to get perfect alignment of the fibreglass parts to the body, rather than trying to sort this after paint which then risks damage and possible cracking of the paint. Should go better too, I bet we have lost about 20 kg. I am hoping the gamble on the colour will be ok too.
