Since I was politely nudged out of the other threads, I guess I'll start my own Restoring a CT LP400S S2 vehicle. Some tid-bits and pain in the behind things that we've had to deal with: (1) wiper arm and motor restoration; basically a lot of incompatible restoration methods required: - wiper arm has all three plating and anodizing options (white, yellow zinc, black) - wiper motor has a fine detail gearing case which should be glass bead blasted and either left natural or painted clear for protection; - wiper motor case is painted or powdercoated black but has to be taken apart including the internals; - etc. (2) coil and resistor restoration: - coils should be plated yellow zinc but the casing is plated before assembly; - there are variations on the Marelli sticker combinations that are present (black lettering on gold background, blue lettering on silver background, etc.) (3) heater core and AC condenser (+fan assembly) restoration - like in (1) a lot of incompatible restoration strategies: - getting the radiator fins cleaned up and restored properly is very difficult (4) horn and horn compressor restoration including all the options for the replacement stickers of the horn compressor - there were lots of variations here. I'll post some of these tidbits as I go along hopefully it benefits others.
Looking forward to another restoration thread. The more threads on the matter, the more we can learn.
Can those of you with experience comment on the cosmetics of this engine? We followed everything that we found re: the LP400S S2 restoration pictures/info and am just curious if anything looks out of place (color, plating, etc.) to anybody here... Here's a question for the group -- how do you guys restore the air box covers, since they have original print on them? They are white(ish) on my car with black lettering. The box itself will be powdercoated the correct color (black).
Here are two recent shots. Front end almost wrapped up. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very cool, thanks for the tip -- will contact them. As a side note -- never realized these are the same on the Miura, shows how little I know.
Very nice Emilio, I will be PM-ing you. Can you confirm if these were stickers on some of the airboxes because on mine it looks like silkscreened lettering? Finally, do you have any FIAMM compressor stickers for sale?
The saga of the FIAMM horn compressor stickers...variety of options as can be shown here. I need to find the one that is shown in the red arrow...so far no luck? Anybody? Thanks. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Can somebody confirm the carb velocity stacks from the 45DCOE Webers are stainless steel and unfinished? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have 3 brand new old stock carb trumpets/stacks that I have for sale if anyone is interested. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very nice. Minor detail - the air-hoses were originally fastened with cotter-pin hose clamps. You could use these for the engine bay also. Re-originals has them. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Are these the part #27 in the pic? Where are they used in the engine bay? Image Unavailable, Please Login
We tried to get these as close as possible to the original colors, platings, etc... Any comments or criticisms please advise! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
