    Dear Aunt Agata

I purchased some replica Bravos for my Silhouette in the interests of safety. My dilemma is whether to risk dangerous handling if I fit them or risk dangerous wheels if I do not. I have standard springs but adjustable gas shocks front and rear.

    What should I do?

  4. FWIW I know of zero problems with any of the guys that have fitted them to their Jalpas. When you fit the tire to the new rim, watch them balance it. If this rim is going to cause problems, it will be one sob to balance. And I might add, even balanced will still oscillate.

Yes. indeed. even the positioning of the tire relative to the wheel can do this. Another is to have the wheel checked for balance prior as there also might be possibilties of the wheel being out of round as there are always a given percentage out of a batch of production... As long as you know what to look for you, you should be ok.

If you want to put them on and drive for a short distance to see how they are, you can since you already have them.. because, if they are on and you feel confident with the changes in behavior of the car as a result, its a safer solution than magnesium. So if you do, first, test fit the new wheel without the tire to make sure that the wheel fits snugly onto the hub. Usually the inner diameter and the outer diameter of the wheel bore and hub diameter should have a difference of between 0.05mm-.2mm to ensure a good fit. The tighter the better ( but it has to be perfectly mated to the mounting surface) Make sure the following, check the center bore of the wheel( if you have a caliper, measure the hub, then measure out the center hole of the wheel) Rotate out the wheel to check if there are any clearance issues. Also test fit out the lug bolt onto the wheel to ensure that the lug bolt is seated properly. While spinning the wheel, visually inspect to see if the wheel rotation is circular but static in position. Once that is done, have the wheels mounted on tires. The tires have to be brand new to mate onto the wheels since most of the time, tires often conform to the rim it mates onto over time and using old tires will often cause imbalance and high speed vibrations, thus instability. The tires are rubber and elastic... For that very reason, new tires are a must. (Unfortunately, you can not use old p7s) When balancing the wheels and tires, make sure they are using the latest high speed balancing machines to ensure calibrations are more accurate. If there is a problem on the balancing, it could be 2 things... tires, or wheels... Tires sometime come out with flat spots and a percentage just comes out of production that way... wheels also potentially could have out of round or difficulty in balancing... So if the tire/wheel is mounted together and not too many balancing weights are used, you have got a pretty good balance between the 2... Once you mount them onto the car, also rotate the wheel tire assembly to make sure there are little to no undulations as well. Once it is mounted, drive at slow speed to check on the differences. Usually, it is recommended to have the vehicle's alignment immediately readjusted after any tire / wheel or even just tire install to take that factor out of the equation.. Because the suspension has already conformed to the old wheel and tire, the suspension will need to be synced to the new wheel/tire through alignment.. If you dont, then you might experience instability or vibrations at speed. Keep in mind that these dont even account for the possible factors of your shocks being too old or springs sagging that can alter your ride... In addition, hub bearings also need to be reviewed as well since there might be a possibility that they have been worn to conform to the old tire/wheel... Afterall, these cars are a couple of decades old and have already accustomed to the old wheel/tire. So any introduction of a new wheel assembly, the general rule of thumb is to ensure first all the other auxiliary assembly are in top condition to facilitate the introduction of a new assembly. Hope some of this general info helps..

    Dear P300V8,

I cannot speak to the replicas, and the testimony of my client as previously posted applies to a Countach S Series 1 in good mechanical condition. But if you are using the original mag. wheels consider the following:

The first thing you should do is beware of long rambling postings in this thread self-confessed to be "general info".

Next, beware of "limited heat cycles due to the frequency of use", and whatever you do, don't forget that to "compare a race car and say if its good enough for a race its good enough for the road is just plain ignorance...".

    Next, roll eyes & exhale.

Next, do what my client just did yesterday: check tire pressures to your satisfaction and go for a nice long drive on the public roads such as speed limits will permit.

    Hope this helps.

    Best,

Disclaimer: the wheels in this picture are guaranteed to not have been re-finished since April 1979. They hold air-pressure perfectly. Take that information FWIW.

All I know is the video was shot in Japan, it was shot to promote Kreissieg Exhaust Systems, and the same car is in these videos... despite what the title of the second video says. If you search for "Kreissieg" you will find videos of many cars of several different make, being driven on the same bit of road seen in the video you posted, and the second one I posted.

You guys, it is not a pity at all! Gosh, if you don't like it, just look at or buy a 1980 - 1988 model.......Just don't buy a 1988 1/2 if you don't like it!

well that clears it up, what was I thinking!?

I'm not a fan of the larger front flairs on the S1 either, but that's a relatively minor styling detail. The perfect countach is a lowered QV (not as low as S1, that's a bit too low for practical reasons), euro light configuration, sans wing. BELLA!

Thanks! There are two versions of this large 1/12 scale model released by a few different companies. One as the LP400, the other labelled as LP500S, which has the Wolf(ish) style flares, spoiler & wing, as well as bravo wheels & P7 tires. I didn't build the black one tho. I bought it already built to use as reference for my own builds. I am planning on building this version next, in Colorado Roma Metallizzato. BTW, if anyone has a paint code for that color it would be a big help :)

    Bravos:
Has Anyone heard of a Bravo failure? If so, do you have eveidence of these?
I'm just a dope with a few Bravo wheels. I have driven at 100mph. I will most likely hit 100mph for a breif time again. Since my pressures are consistant year after years WITHOUT adding air, The least of my worries on my 43 year old car are the wheels. There are many other parts that are nerve racking when you start to actually think about them.

Hey, if Roy can be reckless without wearing seatbelts in his 400, I can be reckless driving with my wheels.

YAHOOOO, join the club..if you think about it..like in the old days..I would rather be thrown from one of these crumple zone cars and take my chances then be wallfed in it..but in reality..you probably wont make it out alive in a good crash, seatbelts or no seatbelts..
