Anyone catch the Black Daytona on this seasons first episode of Suits? Harvey Spector is the next Don Johnson in that car. Props to them for an excellent choice for New York's number one closer!

My first guess is it's this cut coupe, available for sale locally in the NYC area. Going to watch tonight in re-run to see if my suspicions are confirmed.

My understanding is this show is filmed in Toronto.
Not sayin they did not do a segment in NYC
Also suspect we may see car again this season

Paging Tbakowski, Vasco or BigRed they seem to know all the unique cars in TO

It isn't the one from autosport. The car in episode one of season seven is most likely black and has black interior with red inserts in the daytona seats. Also the car for sale has cromodora and in the show they are Borrani wire wheels.

From the interior shots it can't be a mcburnie kit on a corvette. It is highly like it is an original.

This is all shot in Toronto (the actual car driving shots in the city.). If you care, most of shots were downtown on University Avenue. I have never been to Toronto. Google maps is a wonderful/scary thing.

    Shots:
    1- flyover towards NYC
    2- unknown
    3- unknown
4- NYC straight down shot of streets
5- squeeky - left turn from Adelaide st w to northbound University Ave
6- University Ave going south at about Elm st (thai express)
7- shifting the car - southbound on University Ave at Richmond St
8- North on University at Queen St
9- South on Universtiy at Elm (other side of the car)
10- North on University a bit north of Gerrard St
    11- residential unknown

Real Daytona but not a real spyder. Built new for the USA market and converted by Richard Straman. Maybe Mr Massini can provide the serial number for this very late 1971 build; probably a late 14XXX number or early 15XXX number. Don't know if the nose was originally painted silver or the original color combination for paint and interior...

Just curious, in the Autosport Design ad, it says, "All spiders started as coupes, and were converted by Scaglietti". This doesn't seem right. I would have thought they were spiders from the go. No?

IN 1971 the bodies for the Daytona were constructed by Scaglietti in Modena. Scaglietti was producing more bodies than Ferrari could produce chassis. To slow down Scaglietti every fourth coupe was cut down. The Ferrari plan originally was to build only 15 spyders but steady demand increased that number into the year 1973. The 122nd spyder built was 17073 for the USA market.

I have heard similar things but several Daytona owners and other well informed folks here have told me that all factory spiders were built as spiders, none were cut from coupes. I'd love to know for sure who has the correct info on this.

Just an observation about the Daytona spyder build stated by that person in 1971.

Harvey is quite the car guy. I recall seeing him in an Aston Martin in a previous season.

Thanks for the info! I love learning the histories of every model. I think the Daytona coupe is a very good looking car, but its not quite my favorite- a little awkward from some angles (at least to my eyes). But, I think the Spyder is so clean. Its like wearing a classic watch or very clean classic sunglasses. You really can't go wrong. One day I would like to have one...

The Spyder is a favourite. I think perhaps this one was restored by Motion or they did one in this color>

Dam, You Fchatters are on point! Nice work. I do prefer the Daytona to the other vehicles I've seen on the show. I do think that F car fits the character in the show. Keep Mike on that lame as bicycle.

You guys are the best...just amazing. We watched the episode last night and I told my wife that I questioned if it was a real Daytona. I figured by today that question would be answered here.. serial number and all. Thanks!

1977/1978 CONVERTED into a Spider by Richard Straman & Co. in Costa Mesa, CA/USA.

This Daytona Spider Conversion was sold October 2011 by Autosport Designs to a doctor in Switzerland. Here are some pix I took 26 October 2013 at the official Ferrari dealership of Niki Hasler AG in Basel. Note change of interior/seat color compared to pix on Peter Klutt's Legendary Motorcars website.

Many thanks to Marcel for all the details including photographs provided here! I would note the steering wheel has been converted back to the two holes per spoke USA style that was typical of the period. The solid spokes being more of a european style. Also the dash material change now to.
The coupe 14191 illustrates it's original color oro chiaro 'clear gold' paint color. Ironically this Daytona pictured like 14997 was also delivered by Modern Classic Motors in Reno Nevada>
Though it appears to be missing the silver nose paint typical of 1971 USA models that gave them their unique look. Like many Daytona models 14191 had a color change before the return to the current and original oro chiaro paint.

Spyders were made as Spyders from the start, not from coupes.
Check out the photo by Neil Bruce in the book Daytona Super profile by Nathan Beehl, it shows a Spyder in the jig being made from scratch.

Yes I see where the spyders started out as spyders and not cut down coupes when new. The other person who I quoted was incorrect on a couple of points: the chassis was made by Gilco and it was a quicker process than the body building process going on at Scaglietti. Thank you Grant!
