Dubai floods

I drove my FF to work this morning. Left it in the underground car park as the roads were completely flooded by lunch time.

 

I thought Dubai was a desert?
I can't imagine heavy rains

 

No we get the occasional rainstorm. It even rains in the desert from time to time.

on my project two years ago in the middle east desert.

you would expect the water to be absorbed is the dry so quickly but the opposite is true. The desertsand is generally only a few inches on top of a hard layer. Water just stays for days.
