In the first "Classic & Sportcars" French version, of april 2008, there's a big file about the 250 SWB, and with his 250!
I was there, also. And like you, none idea at this time that the car was EC's Lusso... Image Unavailable, Please Login
You and I must have been there at about the same time...just a few days before the RM auction in May. When I saw the car it was parked in exactly the same place as in your picture. The gentleman who was accompanying me through Classiche told me it was EC's car. When I called my wife over to see it, he sort of backpedalled, as if he shouldn't have mentioned EC's ownership. Jack.
I think the picture of the crashed Boxer is on the inside cover (left side) of the Derick and The Dominoes Layla record album.
The Boxer was only a twinkle in Enzo's eye when Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs was released. See post #25 of this thread. Upper right side of inside album.
Ummm... Sorry, I should have stated 365 GT4/BB (rather than just stating Boxer, which could also be confused with the 512 BB/BBi) which was produced from MY 1973-1976. Layla, as I recall was released, in 1972-1973, thus Clapton may have owned one of the MY 1973 models (actually 1972). I saw that post you are referring to, but please someone with the actual album, check the above-mentioned inside album cover.
Many years ago he commissioned me to build a 1:18th scale model of his Lusso. He gave me a contact no. for when it was ready. To cut a long story short the no. was his management company. I spoke to his manager who said "I'll pay for it. It'll be a nice present." I replied "That's generous." (It was about £1000 at that time) His manager replied "well it's cheaper than last year. I bought him a real Ferrari then." Apart from paying me I also got a signed Eric Clapton Tour brochure. Eric has also owned the following Ferraris; 250TdF - 0707 250GTE - 4239 275GTB/4 - 10843 365GTC - 12739 206GT - 00152 550 Maranello - 107985 Nathan Image Unavailable, Please Login
Layla was released in 1970 and the inner album cover is somewhat similar to that of Slowhand with many snap shots in a collage design, but no Boxers Image Unavailable, Please Login
Absolutely - the wonderfully talented Duane Allman featured heavily on the album before he crashed fatally on his motorbike in 1971. EC also recorded Derek and the Dominoes live at the Fillmore East on 23rd and 24th October 1970 (actually before the studio album was released 2 months later). Now back to his cars. Onno
"Live at The filmore East", and "Derek and the Dominoes ~ In Concert" are two of my favorite albums of all time. Simply outstanding. "Behind the Sun", the Album Piloti has the signed tour poster from is excellent as well.
Hmm, I was thinking the sideswiped boxer was on/in the 461 Ocean Blvd. album (I do not have that album to back it up)... I remember seeing an ad in the back of Thoroughbred & Classic Car's for the TdF, but I don't remember how long ago that was, surely twenty (20) or more years ago.
This was the largest image I could find of the right inner cover of Slowhand. http://www.vinylrecords.ch/E/ER/Eric_Clapton/Slow-Hand/slow-hand-33.jpg
Boxer is circled but can anyone identify the front engine formula car or the open touring car? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice to think it was a 365GTC that melted his heart and started the obsession. However, I think his memory of the price is incorrect. I'm pretty sure it was more than 4 grand when new. The 330GTC was $16,070 without any taxes, which would equate to GBP5,822 in 1967 and GBP 6,695 in 1968. Adding taxes and a bigger engine, I think GBP7.5 - 8k is more likely to be the right price. Thanks, Andy. All my old albums are long-gone. I must be getting senile in my old age. I could swear I remember a picture of the crashed Boxer inside the cover on the record. Probably one of the best albums ever recorded - that was music! Now this rap/Hip-Hop ****....
I just remember how blown away I was to see these guys performing together on prime-time t.v.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=In81MKHi-vY&feature=related This was "about" the time Layla was being circulated (see D&Ds performing also).
Eric's been a client for many years. Here is the last time he was in my gallery in 2008. He loves cars and (thankfully) quality memorabilia! He is also a huge watch collector - vintage Patek, Rolex, etc. He has several modern Ferraris but his 250GT SWB is spectacular. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here is one of his 250 SWB that ended up in Australia. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
