    Hello to all Mondial owners,

i have a 1982 Mondial QV (European Version) and i bought a set of original Ferrari 348 Wheels.

I unfortunately did not notice, that the rear wheels have a different offset.

I was told, that one wheel is a European Version and the other is a USA Version.

The wheels have the following markings :

    Rear Wheel Rear Wheel

    SL863 SL431

    9 J x 17 9 J x 17

Made in Italy Speedline Made in Italy Speedline

    156244-C=43.05 136547-C=68.05

    94-5 93-3

GAL Si 7 GAL Si 7

    T6 B 8244 JLL T6 0683 JLL

    T24C T248

I have mounted both wheels on the Mondial and it seems to me, that the wheel with the
part Number 156244-C=43.05 fits better. Because at the other wheel, the distance between the rim and the spring was very short. I could just test it on the lift, because the wheels does not have tires.

Also i saw, that i would need new bolts, because at both wheels the original Mondial Bolts where to short.

Can someone help me and tell me which rear wheels you have choosen and where you bought the longer bolts ?

    Thanks in advance

    Best regards from Germany

The C= is the offset in mm. The offset determines how much the wheel sticks out from the wheel well (actually how much they are sucked in from the centerline toward the chassis). Too much offset and the wheel will rub on the wheel house. Too little and it will stick out of the fenders. Obviously the wider the wheel the more likely it is to stick out and/or rub as well.

The length of the lug bolt depends on the design of the wheel. But generally wheels with less offset require longer bolts. You will need to calculate the length you need by measuring before you go shopping for bolts. If the wheels you have came from a 348, then there is a good chance 348 wheel bolts will work.

You are going to have to buy one new rear wheel as well.

I had to put 25mm spacers on mine.
The early models had 68mm offset and the later models had 43 mm offset.
So early wheels need spacers. so you will have to buy one 25mm spacer.

348 wheels have 4 different wheels.
left front- right front -right rear- left rear so all inclined facets point in the same direction for improved brake cooling.

I bought my wheel lugs from superformance in the uk.
I even bought their spacesaver wheel to free up bootspace in the front.

If you need 25mm spacer I have a set that came with the 360 wheels I bought. I have 4 fronts and did not need the spacers. I had to cut down the wheel bolts to spec. Luckily a friend has a 430 with the same wheel specs so I matched his bolts. There is about a 2mm difference front and back with thread depth if I remember correctly. (Mine is an 8, not sure if the Q.V. is different).

I decided to use 348 wheels with my Euro Mondial 3.2 about 6 months ago and my experience might be helpful.

Information provided by Speedline Italy shows that for a Euro 348 orginally there were 4 different wheels fitted as follows:

Ferrari No Size Pcd CB Offset Application Material Wheel
    136542 7.5Jx17 108.00 67.00 49 front right GALSI7 T6A5051
    136531 7.5Jx17 108.00 67.00 49 front left GALSI7 T6C3140
    136547 9Jx17 108.00 67.00 67 rear right GALSI7 T6A3870
    136538 9Jx17 108.00 67.00 67 rear left GALSI7 T6C2914

I found I needed to purchase longer wheel bolts to fit these wheels and I can recommend Hill Engineering in the UK.

I did not use a spacer for the front wheels and purchased 58.5mm bolts. This bolt requires 8 turns to fully tighten at which point the bolt just protrudes beyond the inner hub (about the same as a TRX setup).

The decision regarding rear wheels was more difficult and probably more controversial. I decided to fit 20mm spacers with 76mm bolts and 245/45 R17 tyres. These required 8 full turns of the wheel bolt to fully tighten. At this point the gap between inner wheel/tyre edge and coil spring was close to that of a TRX wheel/tyre while the outer tyre edge still had reasonable clearance with the bodywork.

You might find my post "Wheel bolts for a Mondial 3.2 with 348 wheels" posted 28/3/17 answers some of your questions in more detail.

Best of luck. I'm sure you will enjoy the change.
