Go to your dealer and ask what a Special Project one off would cost. I've heard numbers from reliable sources and it's about 3mm GBP or $4.5MM+ for Eric's car. Keep in mind you get a one of one and Ferrari agrees not to visit the "hommage" again. Do remember you have to keep the windshield/doors/legal lights/and bumpers unlike P 4/5 which PF engineered and homologated. The days of Ferrari allowing that are over... That's why I've become a constructor.
That's hard to fathom, but also amazing at the same time. Research & Development, and Racing isn't by any means cheap.
I wonder how much it would cost to take a 512 frame, reinforce it and fit a 599 drivetrain and electronics (flipping the engine ala Mosler)? Surely you could get it done for less than $700k.
I think you'd want to upgrade everything though -- HVAC, brakes, suspension, electronics, etc. Just swapping an engine is really not doing much. It's done all the time with 70's American Muscle cars. It would be interesting to do it to an Italian sports car.
So Mr. Eric originally SHOULD be getting a V12 by spending 3million, but ended up getting a V8. Personally, I think that's not possible that unit cost 3million. If so, Mr Eric would freak! Am I the only one that find the rear a little less pleasant to look at? The grill is hideous.
I think it looks better in the video. I don't hate it. It probably looks pretty striking in person. Not really a fan of regurgitated designs. If old' EPC like it than I am happy for him.
With that much of money spent, I wonder if Mr Eric have the say when it comes to the design of the car. Imagine spending 3million, but the design is NOT what he wanted it to be. What do you guys think? Is he involved in the design of the car?
Nice find; I embedded it to save some a click... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ue30EB6io0[/ame] Is that a GTO in the top right corner at around the 40 sec mark... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm not a big fan of the design. What I find even more disappointing, however, is the lack of a V12. If the numbers circulating in this thread are correct, it doesn't strike me as good value. Hopefully Clapton is satisfied and thinks differently.I suppose that's all that matters in the end...
I would think that it would be more cost effective and safer to just build a brand new frame from scratch based off of the original 512 design.
I have been waiting to see this car for a long time, and after seeing it I am very dissapointed the only view I find pleasant is the rear view but it is not my car so I hope Eric is happy with it.
