If you like small italian cars, please look at this one: File:FiatMorettiSportiva-front.jpg - Wikipedia It's a sort of small Fiat Dino Moretti it's another Italian customizer, specialized in small cars.
And here, you can find the history of the first "normal" one, the Fiat 850: Fiat 850 - Wikipedia sorry, again only in italian, but there are some pictures...
Been a longtime fan of Moretti, their little bubble coupe's being a top fancy of mine....this website is where one can drool over a wide variety. These little Bertone 850 spiders are just my poor mans way to play in the hobby and still get all visceral stimuli. http://www.ferrariexperts.com/etceterini.htm
I can't get to my best photos at present but here's a few shots of the 124b engine in my 850. It's a bored 124b block and rods with a 1608 crank and (I think) 128 1100 pistons (81mm?). Memory could be wrong but you end up with about 1550 cc. PBS did the shortblock. Basically I used the parts from a rusted Abarth 124/1300 to do this. Special engine cradle, bellhousing, tranny input shaft, reverse rotation cam gears, and relocate the radiator to the front. This is no show car but I have fun with it. I had to modify the rear body pan (cut off original 850 engine mount and clearance it for the 124 pulley) and make room for my home made exhaust. Lowered suspension, etc. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
While I'm at it here's a couple of shots of my 57 1200 TV. Coincidentally it also has a 124b 1438 engine in it! Another fun, relatively unknown FIAT Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
oh ya, know those cars...I remember the swivel seats? Cool you have an eclectic collection and big props on the custom work with the 850 hot rod...is it quick?
In San Francisco there is one of these on the side of the parking garage across from Moscone center. I always thought this was an élan when I was a kid. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very nice! And, as you say, here's "Another fun, relatively unknown FIAT". As much as I love little Italian convertibles this one is priced for that one person who's gotta have it ($170K). Fiat Other Cabriolet | eBay Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sweet!...and it looks rough, maybe original? Must be stunning all pimped out/restored. How many of those were made? I see ASA immediately, same designer?
The German company is spelled NECKAR, with an 'A' (near the Neckar river). They were licensed by FIAT to produce cars in Germany. There are apparently about 600 of them accounted for at present.
I had two friends in high school who owned 850s. I drove an X1/9 and the three of us cut our teeth on these cars. I recall removing the rear body panel of the 850, unbolting the engine to transmission bolts, and the two of us walking out the rear of the car with engine in hand. Another cool feature was how the convertible top stowed under the rear body panel.
Just home today, now two spiders and a scorpion. Here is the 'build' story on it. Barely driven since this was done 2 years ago. I recognized the car as my favorite 850 spider ever and there it was for sale. Just finished 1967 Fiat 850 Spider restoration - Alfa Romeo Bulletin Board & Forums Image Unavailable, Please Login
