    About time!

My GTC is closing in on 185,000 miles and I decided to remove the ORIGINAL shocks and send them out for rebuild.
They had never been out of the car and all suspension components are original except for the lower ball joints.

Although most of the rubber bushings were in sad shape (see photos), all the metal bushings showed no sign of wear.

It's amazing how much crud accumulates on the suspension components over time.

While the car is on the lift, I plan to build a new partial exhaust system, install cruise control, a new Blaupunct Toronto stereo and speakers and remote door locks.
Time permitting, I will install headrests.

    Should be fun!

If nothing other than lower ball joints have ever been replaced or serviced on the suspension within past 185K miles and 50 years, I wouldn't be surprised if any and all service components are anything but completely worn out.
Freshly rebuilt shocks will likely make it even more evident.

So far, the only components that I could accurately check are the rear metal to metal bushings.
All the flex bushings will of course be replaced.
Before disassembly, I checked all four ball joints as well as all tie rod ends.
Could not find and play at all.
I have already replaced all the sway bar bushings.

Bob, I'm curious. Has anything major been done to the motor in 185,000 miles?

Here is a photo of the rear lower "A" arm after I reconditioned it.

I also refinished all the grease retention caps.

    More to come.
