    My friend Jim Elmore and I were high school
    classmates at Sarasota, FL high school in 1962,
    and meet when we were both members of the Camera Club.

    Jim was far more sophisticated than I. When advanced
    Camera Club members had Yashica twin - lens reflex
    cameras, or a few had Mamiya 35mm SLR's, Jim had a
    Linhof Super Technika with flashes and several lenses.

    Although I never actually saw such an occasion, classmates
    said that, on a rare occasion, Jim would drive the pictured
    car to school.....A far reach for an 18 year old high school
    student in those poor Florida days.

    Jim supported his (various) hobbies by taking pictures
    and selling them. His main hobby was taking pictures a
    nd showing them. He was a Daytona and Sebring habitue
    in the late 1950's and early to mid 1970's - when I lost touch with him.

    IIRC, he was friends with the famous Donna May Mims - to
    whom he sold pictures for the magazine, and he may
    have known the lovely Denise McCluggage,
    since she won Sebring in 1961 in a 1961 Ferrari 250gt.

    Jim also "wrote" for several of our high-school publications,
    and edited the one in which these photo's
    appeared in the spring of 1962.

    tail light on the right hand side ?

    Is the 1961 identification correct ?

    Just a reflection of some sort.

    No, this car was being built from late 1958 to early 1959. At the time that your photo was taken, it was still with original owner John McGeary in Florida and it was black with red leather interior.

    The last SI PF Cab was completed in August, 1960.

    2. USGP, Sebring 1959. Either Tony Brooks in Dino 246 s/n 0004 or Cliff Allison in s/n 0003.

    3. Sebring 1959, NART entry, Carveth/Geitner in 250 TR s/n 0666TR.

    4. Sebring 1960, NART entry, Rodriguez brothers in 196 S s/n 0776.

    1211GT was in Florida and then Missouri around that time, but I have it being white while in Florida and then repainted red while with the Missouri owner.

    Do you know for sure that the car in the photo was black?

    I owned 1211 gt for many years and spoke to the original owner. It was originally white with tan interior, delivered to the original owner, from Miami, living at the time in Italy, at the Ferrari factory by Enzo himself. Original owner was a physician. It was red with black interior when purchased by a friend of mine in West Virginia. He purchased it from a guy in Missouri.
