Beautiful car! ... and seemingly in excellent condition. One of the very last RHD Meraks produced (third last VIN).
@JasonMiller and I took interest to see if this could saved. Unfortunately, it will likely languish another 15 years Image Unavailable, Please Login
Maybe add the VIN to the registry so that at least it's whereabouts and condition are known.... What a shame for such a pretty little car to end up like that.
And one for sale at auction next month Historics at Brooklands - Specialist Classic and Sports Car Auctioneers - 1975 Maserati Merak
I agree, and hence probably a nice opportunity. However, as indicated in the text it is a restoration project. That it doesn't have a leather interior may also drag the price a bit down...
Hello to all Merak fans, do you know if someone or there is somewhere a Merak for sale?? Merak SS with Bora interior. Let me know please. I would like to give my Khamsin a "brother in arm"
Hello Merak owners: Does the owner of AM 122.US.2414 post here, or does anyone know who currently owns this car? While going through a stack of paperwork in my office I found some documentation regarding this Merak. One page contains the build info for this car as sent to the owner back in 1996 from MIE. The second is what appears to be a pre-purchase survey performed on this car, also back in 1996. Both pages are copies, but may be worthwhile to have as documentation, if the car still exists. I am willing to send the current owner this information, as I probably will never own this car! Mike
Sale is this Saturday I believe. Im aware of one good condition Merak SS which sold in the high £50k range this week and I've just been offered another at £60k fully restored. So I expect the yellow car to go for about £60k. The car at Brooklands 2 weeks ago was a total wreck and went for about £18k.
PLEASE could you tell me more info about the car you have just been offered at £60k fully restored? I'm looking for an exceptional car and that could be it!!! The yellow car at Bonhams went for £52,900 including premium.

Maybe this article helped to drive up prices: Is now the time to buy a Maserati Merak SS? | Classic Driver Magazine You have to admit they have always been undervalued!
Yes still for sale. Its such a distinctive car that I can't believe that anyone looking to buy it won't know that it was sold at auction for a much cheaper price. I think it will hang around for a while. The old owner must be annoyed to see his car flipped like this.
The link above still works but when you go to their home page and try to find the car from there it is no longer listed under the cars for sale. I was genuinely interested in buying that car so I just called them and was told by someone on reception that it's now had a deposit placed on it so I guess that means it's 'under offer' - I'll be speaking to them again in a while to speak to someone in sales to get more info as to whether they think it's a firm sale and at what price. Funny how a car seems even more desirable when it sells quickly… UPDATE: Just spoke to them again and it seems they have temporarily taken it off their site while they get something clarified about it as they want to get their information on the car 100% correct. So perhaps it hasn't sold after all...
Bob, almost all non-US spec SS have the Citroen system... Only the very last came without, and as far as I know none of the RHD cars.
That's right. I have seen several late RHD cars in the UK (from 1980 and 1981) that have the citroen brakes. Here's one example: http://www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2011-10-22/car/1982-maserati-merak-ss.aspx And another: https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/21749/lot/191/
All RHD had Bora dash and LHM system. Merak was sold in Europe in -76 and -77 as SS (220 hp) with LHM and a dashboard with a square box around the instruments and with the lower part from the older version. In US this was not delivered, but some cars got the SS engine even with LHM and SM dash (this is confirmed by Maserati, engine number will tell). The very late Euro cars has no LHM, has Bora dash and outboard brakes at the rear. Only 64 (I think) cars where made and it was called "Merak80" at Maserati. Except for beeing made in small numbers they are not special at all, just what most of you in US call "Merak SS", but with Euro bumpers. Cheers Marius
