To be auctioned by RM on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 Estimate €450.000 - €550.000 Chassis: 0646 Engine: 0594 1966 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 by Touring | Paris 2015 | RM AUCTIONS
well, if the urraco was around $35k when the countach was $100K, then it only makes sense to be $115K when the countach is worth over $300K
2 points to note in the car's history as explained by the auction text are: "1120260 was completed on 2 June 1977 and finished in Rosso with a Tobacco interior" So it no longer has its original lovely 'Tobacco' interior combination with red (as shown below). "Shortly after returning to Australia, the car was converted to LP400S specification by the local New South Wales Lamborghini distributor by flaring the wheel arches and fitting LP400S Bravo style wheels, a front spoiler, and a rear wing." This means it was converted into an LP400S-style car, and not by the factory itself. One can see traces of that former life if you look closely at the current images, and the car still retains LP400S rear suspension. I'd say the estimate is wildly optimistic and wouldn't be considered in a private deal, but, anything can happen in an auction. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Could be, most of Henry's conversions (I'll get chipped here by someone - I only saw 2 of them in period of the 4 or 5 he did) had the Simmons BBS look a like wheels. John
Hi Eric, looks to me to be the same flairings as my old 1120022 was widened with. Probably supplied in a kit from Lamborghini factory together with a set of Bravo wheels. Anyone know how many kits were sold? L-E
The white and red Diablo's did not sell in the Spring auction....they were sold in the Fall...the white popped back up for sale pretty fast, not sure if it's gone. Either way, there was something odd about those two cars - they had VT badging...I called both Auctions America and the dealer that was re-selling the white one and neither could explain why.
Yes it is - Henry converted 5 LP400 to S spec. 260 and the Targa top ex Paul Halstead car got the rounded flares - Henry made these and the suspension mods himself. On the other 3 he used flares molded from an original S 1 car.
Then I am sure that I saw this car again in '81 or '82 (might be later) for sale on a servo forecourt on Parramatta Road at Taverner's Hill for $60k (might have been $80k but $60k sticks in the mind). John
Does anyone in Australia know anything at all about 1120228 rebuilt as an S and last known colour rosso/nero ?
John you are right, the ask was $80k. The car was sold to an American ex pat living in Queensland who had the car for many years. I only know whats already known publicly about 228 but I do know that the gold Urraco in the "Convoy" Nichols article is now yellow and with a Melbourne collector. James
I looked at it longingly but I had had the opportunity to sit in the Halstead car and although I am slightly shorter than Paul (6'4") I have no idea how he drove it without the sunroof! John
Thanks James. Until very recently the Urraco owner was not aware that this car had such an illustrious past!
are the molds taken of the round flares directly from the the wolf/dallara cars? they look slightly different from the factory supplied ones. im curious if one can still get a set of these flares from the factory or anywhere else. regards hf
I believe they were made up from scratch, Henry fabricated many parts - he even built his own prototype sports car. Previously he had been race engineer for Frank Matich.
I don't think so. I believe it is one of those set that you could buy to modify your LP400 into a WW look a like. 1120022 had the same and a late friend of mine bought a set for his car when it was just a few years old. He never put them on his car. You have to cut in the wings to make them fit. I believe that you even got the four brackets to weld on the frame and the four adjustable rods to make a "parrallel" lower pickup instead of the original inverted wishbone construction. There even was a front spoiler in aluminum to fit under the standard glassfibre front bumper and of course the big rear wing. And the Bravos. Is there anyone out there who knows more about this and have a idea of how many kits that where sold and how many LP400 that was converted? L-E
The front spoiler on 260 was fiberglass and slightly different in shape to the Wolf style as were the flares, see nose shot below. The flares were riveted over the original guard with no mod needed at the front and minimal cutting in the rear. The current owner still has the removed parts. Apart from him telling me as such it is also documented that Henry Nehrybecki designed the mods on 272 including suspension and flares, I've reproduced article from Australian Sports Car World Feb 1980 also below (interesting reference to Wolf having come out here to see the car). 272 was the first Australian LP400 to be converted then 260. I don't dispute you could get the parts from the factory but I don't think that was the case with the Australian cars. James James Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
