That was the key to unlocking the Tyson phenomenon. Armen, Ali in his prime (pre 1968) was really unbeatable and would has dispatched Tyson or even Frazier at that time with ease. In the 2nd career (post 1970) Ali only had flashes of brilliance and of his old self here and there. So Frazier really dealt with a past-his-prime fighter in all his matches with Ali. In many of Ali's post 1970 fights he was off. Obviously Kinshasa was one that he really got up for. The last fight he showed flashes of true brilliance was with Ron Lyle in 1975. Watch the ending - a boxing master, dismantling a worthy opponent, and calling in the referee at the same time to stop the fight. He should have retired that very night. Also, Frazier had things Tyson didnt: stamina, and a wider range of skills, most importantly.

Great memories. Mancini could never crack that "coconut head". LOL, and yes Nelson was a great one. There is a welterweight today named Joshua Clottey....Don't know if you've seen him, he is a carbon copy of Nelson. Uganda TOUGH GUY.

Heavyweight devision boxing has been pretty boring over the last few years. I think the main problem is because its dominated by eastern european guys at the moment, who mostly fight outside the states. they're all pretty tall hence harder to knockout. They focus much less on stamina and mostly work on punches (esp. Valuev). There are a few guys of around 6' around but they aren't even close to what tyson was like, and since they fight these much taller guys after a few rounds the smaller ones keep ducking so they can't get punched (legally anyways). I've recently started boxing (well, training and working on stamina mostly atm) and I want to change how heavyweight boxing is how it is now. It'll be a good few years before i'll start professional fighting for sure but I want to become as fit as Tyson was. Its all theory at the moment I know, but I recon as soon as my technique is good enough, had enough amatuer fights i'd make my way over to the states and fight professional. Both tyson and Rocky Marciano (no, not because of rocky movies, but because of the perfect record) are my inspiration... So yeah, hopefully I'll be the 'next Iron Mike', only 10 inches taller lol. PS: I meant tyson in the ring, minus biting ears and doing rape etc. Just the boxing bit of it... (didn't read the whole thread since its almost 5 now, will miss to much!)
This weekend Pavlik and Coto get back on track. Pavlik is my favorite fighter, and I was ringside when Hopkins made a mess of him. That hurt. He should handle Rubino fairly easily, as he will be right there for that right hand. Coto should completely destroy this Jennings guy.
Did anyone catch the Jones vs Lacy fight??? Roy certainly outclassed him and I saw the Roy of old in the ring tonite!

Biggest robbery in years this weekend. Malignaggi vs. Diaz. One reason why boxing is loosing fans. No way was the Golden Boy going to come near loosing this fight. Fixed judges all the way.
Aye, I didnt watch the fight but there is nothing worse!!!!! I watched a local fight here last year. Aussie fighter Billy Dibb fought a black south paw boxer from South Africa here in Australia. The South African put his Aisa-pacific championship belt on the line. The 'Golden Boy' Dela-Hoya and 'Suger' Shane Mosely were seated at ringside and were in Billy Dibb's corner! Billy Dibb boxed well in the first 2 rounds, but he wore himself out, it was obvious to see. The next 10 rounds, the South African boxed Billy's ears in. He won EASILY on points and even if you were a blind man, you still would have seen the South African give Dibb a beating!! Anywho, come decision time...............he lost! Billy won the fight, the crowd was booing the decision. The South African fighter was going off! They appealed the decision after the fight and it was rejected. THAT was the biggest robbery I have seen in boxing to date. Made me sick, it really did. After the fight, they interviewed Billy in the ring and he said he COULD NOT believe he won the fight. Was very happy of course. He had Mosely in the ring with him celebrating. I wonder who greased the judges palms there..............
It's really unfortunate when a fighter gets robbed of a victory. I can't imagine how the losing fighter feels as I'm already ticked off to the point where I want to pound somebody. Flashbacks of Lewis vs. Hollyfield always comes to mind. Truly sad for a sport that once had a great following.
