Apologize if this is a repost, but one of my pals just sent this regarding the posting for a sale of a rare Mangusta on E Bay : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Detomaso-Mangusta-race-car-very-rare-SCCA-Imsa-HSR-/220963876267?pt=Race_Cars_Not_Street_Legal_&hash=item3372792dab
John, not a repost...more like a re-list. This car recently bid to $92k (reserve not met) and is just re-listed roughly a week later. It was a featured car on Bring a Trailer recently and there is some great discussion there about the car.
The rear portion of the frame is all there, body parts removed and additonal "roll bar" style pieces replaces the roof to inner fender brace. He has an aftermarket uprights and axles, more modern cv joints and brakes. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=139879131&postcount=262
here is a thought I had for you 'engineer' types being that early Mangusta's were shod with lighter weight magnesium wheels and later cars with heavier aluminum, and with the rear weight bias as bad as it is, wouldn't a combination of lighter (magnesium) wheels in the rear, and heavier (aluminum) wheels in the front be an interesting and 'winning' combination? What would the effects be? Advantageous? ...always thinking ...also thinking my car might be the perfect candidate for this experiment, as concours/original it ain't.
Mike, the alloy wheel is 28 pounds, how much less does the Magnesium weight? Often there is also the sprung/unsprung weight math...
Black Mangusta sold out of Croatia/former Yugoslavia in late Eighties was apparently sold to Belgium, so maybe it might be the clue of its current whereabouts.
Just weighed my spare wheel that has no tyre on at present and it is 8Kg ie approx 17.5Lbs. That is a front wheel obviously so the rears are more if that 28lbs refers to a rear.
Someone been out for a spirited drive on a great road (track), remiond me of up north. Still snow left here and car not ready. Here is a short video to get the motivation going. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gysNaZVikm4[/ame]
Okay Denis, that does it! The FedEx guy just dropped off my new brake pads. I'm rolling the 'Goose out this afternoon!
Yes, but a proper collection includes both. I will probably never be able to afford the Miura, but if I could, I would have both. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ciao Emilio! Drive?? I have no idea, it might get dirty! ...have barely logged any miles, let's see....it's loud, cramped, squirrelly, hot, and looks REAL good!....typical Mangusta!
the REALITY of the situation with my car is that it is going to the successful high bid in the next 24 hours on eBay, reserve is met. I know I sound like a broken record, but of all the amazing cars Ive been fortunate to own, NOTHING has ever come close to this thing. I regret not showing it off more often, because as a show car it steals the show EVERYTIME and EVERYWHERE. I move in and out of amazing cars about every 3 years and get over these lost loves I love Mangusta's, so will still 'host' this amazing thread and appreciate all the contributions from the REAL experts! I am at best an enthusiast, but love learning! as an afterthought, I am still gonna be 'active' in the Mangusta world, because I AM the Mangusta wheel guy now, have spares Image Unavailable, Please Login
So Mang how did you go? Hope you are happy with the result and one day will again dive into Mangusta ownership.......
Nice Mangusta appeared at the La Jolla concours last weekend, anyone know the car? http://www.flickr.com/photos/24302083@N05/7051553495/in/set-72157629755766107
Great color on the Mangusta, I think the Mangusta exterior is more exciting than the Miura, but the interior isn't quite as developed as the Lamborghini. Comparing the big exotic Ghia cars of that time period they all seem to have the same design, Mangusta, Iso Fidia, 450 SS.
Yes it was a neat car. I have heard the Miura interior is awful to use, driving position wise, so is the Mangusta worse? Slow steering rack a problem?
