I think that's from the "Gatsby Collection" advertised, if I'm not mistaken. If so, I wouldn't be surprised if all his cars are asking a lot. Seems to be a collection put together quickly and sold in a short of amount of time afterwards, to turn profit.
Overpriced...a truly rare and important car that commands that kind of dollar is one that mileage doesn't matter nor repaint to change the color. Sounds like a flipper...near zero miles and rare factory spec color.
I find it rather amusing that some may consider a technological masterpiece overpriced at $4,000,000, but a 50 year old piece of junk (GTO) is indeed worth 30 mil...
Why was that white LaF overpriced? Because it was a no-sale in an auction setting. If it was priced right, it would've sold. And to confirm that statement, other LaFs have been sold for less than that and even in the same venue. Talacrest's 250 GTO has been up for sale for a while now so one could argue that it is not priced right at $56 million (or whatever it is now if they've adjusted it and exchange rates). However, the 250 GTOs are historically significant unlike the LaF. Mileage, repaints/reupholstery, and prior accidents don't affect GTO prices, but would decimate a LaF or other similar car's price. GTO's have become rolling artwork and are not "junk." It's no different than the eight and nine figure paintings that routinely sell. I understand some people don't appreciate artwork that much, but to call it junk seems pretty unreasonable.
A motorcar is a wheeled vehicle, powered by an engine or motor. Its purpose is to either transport people or to provide an experience to the operator. A racing history some half century ago is meaningless in this context!!!
I really don't give a damn about what "the market" says. The market is just some silly fools with more money than sensse, buying things not because they are very good at all, but because they are scarce. Perhaps the LaFerrari isn't really worth a cool 4 mil, but a rusty GTO with its stone age (relatively speaking) technology shouldn't cost even 1/1000th of that.
It's the same tired old line about "new is better, technology is everything"...let's not encourage this troll.
