I'm the guy in the shorts and moustache. At the time I spoke almost no Italian at all and the guy kneeling behind me spoke French, Italian, Friulian, and English so he was my translator. He was a friend of the other guys behind Enzo. They are from Friuli and were/are huge Ferrari fans. Behind me is Giulio Borsari, famous capo-meccanico for many years. Because this is a copy of a polaroid which has faded, you can't see my shirt which I had silk-screened BORSARI, in honor of Giulio. My california license plate has been BORSARI for over 30 years. I was underdressed because I had no idea that I would meet Ferrari. I'll try to scan some other shots of the factory. This pic was taken in Aug 1978. I sent it to Ferrari to keep, but since my Italian was so poor, he thought I wanted an autograph on it and he sent it back signed ! Image Unavailable, Please Login
My mistake, Sorry. Pic on post #4636 do show 0498M, ex-Tilp. Now I don't believe it's 0498M that ever had the Offy engine but rather 0464MD. In 1957, 0498M had long departed from Tilp, being with either Marin or Logan and from 1960 (the pic), with Nervine.
Wow, that is indeed priceless. What exactly is the story? How and why did you end up in the company with mr Ferrari? Where is the picture taken?
Yes Michael, with the very first owner Mauricio Marcotulli, you ought to see what this car went through, many pictures of its story in my forum. http://server4.foros.net/viewtopic.php?t=92&mforum=muchasrpms It is in spanish branko
I met a chap recently who was involved in motor racing in the 60's and I asked him if he had any old photographs. So far three are forthcoming and here is the first. Others to follow. This is the caption to the picture: Maranello Concessionaires Ferrari No. 142. Nurburgring 1000 kms 1964. Graham Hill behind car, in front of David Pipers 250 GTO. Fax Dunn (Pipers mechanic) in brown T-shirt in front of Pipers car. Mike Tee of Motor Sport standing in front of No. 10 pit. Max le Grand (journalist) talking to Hill. We know this car is #0818. Here are the two remaining. Both of 6023 at Paris 1000 kms, 11 October 1964 driven by Willy Mairesse and Jean Blaton. The caption to the pit photograph says: In front of the car is Jean Blaton (grey coat) and Jacques Swaters (grey scarf) standing next to Annie Soisbault de Mantaigu. Leaning against the pit counter at back of LM is Willy Mariresse. Kind regards Mark Shannon www.markshannon.net Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
This is the German GP in 1969. My buddy and I camped out there for 3 days, and he got down close to the track to take some movies and I took a picture of him ! Can you believe it? No fence !!!!! he's the guy looking straight ahead. I can't believe that I caught that car because I had a cheap little instamatic camera. The day after, we drove around the track !! in a Renault 8, about 30 HP if I remember correctly. Image Unavailable, Please Login
My friends from Friuli, who got me introduced to Enzo, were very active in the 70's and 80's and 90's in Italian Ferrari clubs. Unfortunately, that has all changed with the "big business" aspects of F/1. My friends got to know a lot of the mechanics and Valerio Stradi, who was one of Ferrari's secretaries and close confident. On the way back from the Austrian GP, the team stopped the Transporter in their town and they had a big celebration. That's my good buddy in the car, and a few of the fans and mecchanics are pushing it ! The rotund guy on the left of the car is "Sparky" the guy who worked for Marelli Magneti, and the guy second from the right in a red sweater is Paolo Scaramelli, long time F/1 mecchanic. Stuff like this just doesn't happen anymore, thanks to Bernie, Max and corporate greed Image Unavailable, Please Login
These pics are from 78 ? maybe 77 ?? The Friuli friends got in for a visit with the Old Man and a tour of Fiorano. Gianni was so excited he couldn't open his eyes <g> Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
