It seemed to be a standard SWB (not a 61 comp), but was overdue for some work. It ran on about 10 cyls.

It's great nowadays to see the patina of that interior. These 'in period' pictures are the best. Thanks.

Not if it's the original interior, per Ed's comment. Plus, they look far better than Daytona seats, IMO.

Although I've never really appreciated Bertone designs very much, this car grabbed me from the time I saw photos of its debut. The more pictures I see, and in different colors, the more in awe I am. Maybe I'll get to see it in the metal someday......

Thanks for the pictures and the stories, everybody!

    Jack.

While obviously not the same the inserts are similar. A design inspiration for the Daytona?

Could be. The Daytona seats seem to have some of the same design elements. These are much more elegant, though, in my opinion.

Welcome Aboard!!! There is nothing like Fchat!

The Corvair tail lights were also from Giugiaro, as he had a hand in re-designing the Corvair, the second series I believe. He also designed the first BMW 7 series, look at front end of both cars. I have read this and owned the BMW and rally and Gymkhana the Corvair, in my younger days.

The name of David Rose, of Lajolla, is on the owners list. Wasn't this Red Skelton's, Band Leader? I don't know if he waas a drummer, to add to the list.

    Ciao...Paolo

P.S. A hearty Hello, to Krasnavian, and to my other aquaintances.

The, rolling, chassis was given to Bertone by Enzo, as a gift to put whatever body he would like, onto.

That's funny Bruno would always say she is a running fine leave her alone.

    A gift from Enzo...

I would rather believe that Ferrari, investigating on a replacement to the « Lusso », tested Bertone… Of course we know Pininfarina won with the GTL. Giugiaro did the hell of a good job actually.

I bet it didn't help that the Bertone 250SWB had a sharknose. Enzo was mad because of the racing team management walkout. How long was it before he scrapped all the sharknose F1 cars, probably in anger?? If this car had any chance of a limited production run in 1962-63 that killed it.

The fact that they made a wooden buck would tend to suggest they were hoping to produce a reasonable number I think.

You are right Tasman. But Ferrari chose the solution Pinin Farina + Scaglietti !
In my opinion Bertone's project cured the flaw of the "lusso" which was a somewhat too narrow cabin. PF found no other way to cure it on the GTL than the unelegant "pig nose". Too late!

I was thinking of making a painting of it in color and wrote Giugiaro to see if I needed permission. Of course I'd have to take his name off it. It's a front 3/4 view. Let me know if you want me to send you a xerox of it. You can catch my painting styles at www.sportscardigest.com/wallace-wyss-artist-profile

I think you showed me thiscar at your house in some small canyon (Rustic Canyon?) a million years ago. To show you how good my memory is, you worked at a bar that had "fog" in the title. Or maybe The Velvet Fog was singing there, what the hey. You wanted $18,000 for it which was a bit of a stretch for me. It was dark blue then. That was back in the days when oddball Ferraris (Zagatos, etc.) weren't really sought after because nobody was quite sure whether they were customs or "authorized". I think one TV producer (Greg Garrison?) caught on early to how special these cars were and bagged most of the one off Ferraris floating around Los Angeles and moved most of them to Montana and died within the last couple years and now they are coming to the market. Ironically some are still regarded as "customs" like the Tdf with big stainless steel engine turned tailfins. Now James Glickenhaus seems turned in to buying one offs like the Dino Competitizione

is every bit as much fun as the SWB Bertone !
Yes I do see the same car now and then, but I do love this car and find that it is as much an everyday driver as 3269 was...
and I'll be very happy to to put 100k on this one as well.

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY !

This is it, a one off in bronze that was on the car when I got it, I took it off because I was playing in some not so great clubs and didn't want it to disappear....
