Hello everyone, hoping to get your feedback on a new series we're thinking of starting at motor1.com. Some of us (myself included) still engage in the ancient art of assembling scale models, and we're looking to start a series where we talk about the builds, the actual cars, basically a bit of a review.

We're not sure it will take off, but we want to give it the best possible chance for success so naturally we're starting with Ferrari. Here's where we need your help.

We've turned to Tamiya's 1/24 scale lineup for their combination of detail, availability, and price. We've got five Ferraris to choose from but we are only building one to start with. Here are the candidates:

    FXX-K: https://www.tamiyausa.com/items/plas...ri-fxx-k-24343

    LaFerrari: https://www.tamiyausa.com/items/plas...aferrari-24333

    Enzo: https://www.tamiyausa.com/items/plas...-ferrari-24327

    F50: https://www.tamiyausa.com/items/plas...rari-f50-24296

    F40: https://www.tamiyausa.com/items/plas...rari-f40-24295

    360: https://www.tamiyausa.com/items/plas...0-modena-24298

Which would you like to see us build first?

FYI, ran this by Rob and he gave me the ok to post :)

    Thanks all for your input!

Why plastic kits? What Price Point? Who will actually build these?

    1. Because they've been around for decades and they still have a devoted following.
    2. Generally in the $30-$100 range, depending on level of detail.
    3. For the series, myself and another experienced builder on the Motor1 staff.

Apologies for the bad links above, here are another set if you want to look closer at detail, etc.

    F40: 1/24 Ferrari F40

    FXX-K: 1/24 FXX K.

    F50: 1/24 Ferrari F50

    360: 1/24 Ferrari 360 Spider

    LaFerrari: 1/24 LaFerrari

    Enzo: 1/24 Enzo Ferrari

Also, poll is now up. We very much welcome the feedback.

    Thanks,

    Chris

FXX K would be cool too. Lots of details to work through, lots of decals.

If you can pull off building a decent model at that price I would be really impressed. I have been building for well over 30 years and think that's a bit unrealistic, especially when you could have that amount of money into materials alone.

I agree about what it takes to build a model. But maybe with regard to "Price Point" Chris is just referring to the cost of the kit? Hope he clarifies that.

Yes, the plastic kits cost between $30 and $100. They obviously come with all necessary parts for assembly, minus glue and paint of course. I too have been building kits for over 30 years, even managed to get an occasional trophy for my effort so this isn't new territory for me. Same for our other reviewer who will be a part of this segment. :)

Thank you for the clarification. Good luck with the new venture. I remember "Slipstream Models" from way back in the day. He focused on Tamiya 1/20 scale F1 subjects. Simply clean built box stock. It lasted for a few years but he did well. A good presentation will be important.

Thanks everyone for the questions and feedback. Looks like we'll be choosing between the LaFerrari and F40, or possibly tackling them both.
