...and IMO, the most beautiful and proportionally balanced design produced in Maranello.

Childish, I know, but a life long dream for perfect combo: DC-3 & SWB
Both feature very similar, beautifully balanced design and would complement each other perfectly.
Almost bought one (DC-3) close to 30 years ago.

3107GT. I bought it in a dull metallic grey, and jazzed it up a bit. Early 70's, I think.

Sorry, Christian, but my files are now with Marcel. It was in terrible shape; among other things the carb butterflies were so corroded from salt air that I could only get two to open by pounding on them with a large hammer and screw-driver, so I drove it home from L.A. harbor on 8 cylinders. 1960's I think.

But the top ( grey one) has neither period tires nor correct dimension. Very rare to find correct size of tire and wheels on SWB. Everyone wants larger flatter tire as they look more modern! On mine, when I bought it, the spare tire could not fit into the boot for this exact reason!

Sort of like many prefer 8"/9" combo Borranis or 9" rear Cromodoras on Daytona.
I personally prefer appearance of stock 7.5" Cromodoras with 215/70 XWXs all around on them.

You probably noticed it in Bert's photo, taken at Spa in the early 90s, with his GTC. My own GTC was just a few cars along on that day!

Most beautiful Ferrari ever built IMHO. They have always been my favorite, even when I was a kid. The 250 GTO is over rated compaired to this jewel.

I think 79 AB (the silver car) is a replica by GTO Engineering. I am not certain but perhaps someone else can confirm.

John, thank you for the information! As you know, that car was at the Concours d'Elegance last year at Windsor, I would be happy if someone can indeed confirm if it's a replica.

Where was the picture of 3605 taken? I'm guessing from the lack of driving lights it is in the early part of my Dad's ownership around 97-99?

Bang on! 6 July 1997 at the FOC Concours at Castle Ashby.

I have often wondered if it is just my photograph, and the angle it was taken from, but is the front end a slightly different shape from other cars? The grill looks different. Or is this just what happens when there are no driving lights?

#2231 GT was for many years fitted with a 'Chitti' nose, not unlike a 330 TRI. This was done for Adrian Conan-Doyle early in its life, although it was removed in the mid 90s. The late Claude Powell, who had the car for about 5 years, was disappointed by this, as he felt that the modification was period and beautifully engineered.

I have taken this picture from the web (Copywrite unknown) until I can search the loft for my own pics!

Robert, there were about 10 SWBs parked next to oneanother at FF40 (the Garage Francorchamps anniversary in 1992) and it was amazing to see the number of detail differences in body shape. This may have reflected the work of different restoration shops but also the fact that the originals were hand built. No doubt Matthew knows a lot more about his late father's car!

There is a great picture of this car in Godfrey Eaton's "The Complete Ferrari". I was never sure if I liked it or not but was very disappointed when I saw the car in 1998 to see that the nose had been changed back. I would have liked to have seen the sharknosed version to help me make up my mind.

I can't be sure at this distance in time but I think Claude said it was removable, attached by hidden Dzus fasteners or something similar. Let's hope it is still lurking in someone's garage or workshop.

The SWB has always been my fave. Well, one of them anyway. Thanks to everyone for the pix; now we've seen all the permutations.

Thank you Ed, not very pleasant to received a car in this state...

Today is always difficult to find a good ones? I imagine manufacturers creating a special range for vintage cars.

Very nice picture, cockpit air ventilation, polished ventilations for side, and rear lights...awsome picture!

Probably a bit of both. Dad was not happy with the fitment of the grille after the restoration which was a bit rushed to make the 50th anniversary in Rome. He had some further rectification work done later in his ownership. Here is a pic after it was done and with the driving lights fitted.
