    Marcus,
My car is the first completed production Countach S, which is production #2. I have owned it since 2003 and spent all of those years slowly bring it back to life.
My offers have been on the table for about 1-2 years BUT if it came down to it, I wonder if they would still step up to the plate.
But I might be dreaming but I think the longer you own these cars the more valuable it is.

As for the $1,000,000.....that's because I do not want to sell it. That what it would take to pry it out of my garage :)

yes, originality is (finally) king in countach market-value
we are talking of 23 to almost 40 years old cars, they are classing now

this said with LP400 at 350k euro plus, i think we may see few LP400 fanatics without the budget to purchase the real deal, making an LP400 replica on anniversary base....

it could happen, as we have already seen some Wolf "inspired" or replicas on FI 5000S and anniversario base

Hi Peter, your car is the best looking Countach i have ever seen, the first i would buy in the world, but i think you had better to throw away the keyboard and start chasing the guy who offered you 500 K USD... :)

If i pay your car 500 K USD with customs fees and others i would pay 550-570 K EURO for that car: i could buy here in europe a perfect LP 400 and a shining 400 S1 for that amount of money.

I sincerely think that one day your car will be priced at 500 K USD, but not now.

    ciao

Somehow I doubt Peter will be lacing his running shoes to go chasing that $500K any time soon...

Guys, do you feel that the rise of the internet and the proliferation of information about these cars has changed the perception of these cars and driven values?

In your opinion would the lowbody cars be the collector darlings they are today, with their values separated from the rest of the lineage by such a large gap, without the web? Wasn't that gap in values much narrower not that long ago?

The Periscopa has always been special to certain people, as have the lowbodys, but they seem to have gained an even larger cache of legend in recent years.

I think this is one of the best threads I have seen in a long time. Lot's of great info and different views. No one is wrong and No one is right..I wish I had a crystal ball to know what's coming LOL

I do find it intresting that Peter, like me and my 400, has no desire to sell his car at a price that seems to be consistent with todays market. Of course I think Peter, like me, would let it go at a million....after all there comes a time when a price for a car HAS to be accpeted as it just crosses the line of in-sanity not to. But then again, where does it stop. I recall selling my Miura S a few years back for $500K..I thought that was the moon, more then doubled my intial investment for it and thought I would never see that price again...well today, I dont think you could buy that car for under $650K or so..so you just dont know.

What is the reason one person "holds" their car, no matter the stong price offer..? I don't know others answer..but for me it comes down to time in my life, just not worth the chase to try and replace what I have and am happy with. Dont want to waste another 2-3 years sorting a car out to where I want it. I just want to drive them and enjoy them.

Also after thinking on this thread over night, I for myself, came to the conclusion that I am no longer so much intrested in the "perfect" cosmetic car, the right color, all things in the right place as it left the factory, books, tools, advertisement paper's etc etc..I DO want them in the best mechanical condition they can be in so as to have no worries to take it on a extended miles trip, that for me is where the fun is.

I think a good example, for me, is the recent purchase of my "barn find" as I see it. It is a 1981 Black Low Body S2 car with only 16K KMS on it. The exterior paint and body were/are in very very good condition. The interior, a color I have never ever seen, a "Salmon-pink" with Brown carpets/dash. The interior I would say is tired, the dash is very nice, but the headliner is sagging and the drivers seat has a small 2 inch tear in it along one of the seams. The leather has sun fading spots in areas and it has use wear in all the normal areas. The orginal P7 tires were crap, and there was no service history at all to speak of. The car had been sitting for quite a while. No books, but yes a full orginal set of tools and the spare.

So off to Steve at www.drivenexotics.com it went about 3 months ago. My first instructions were to go through it mechanicaly, DO NOT touch anything of cosmetic concerns. So he did that, I even instructed him NOT to pull the motor, as the clutch seems very strong at the test drive and I will just wait till it goes, if it goes in my ownership time. I did have the orginal Dish wheels removed and replaced them with the last set of S1 Bravo orginal wheels I had in stock, becuase I love the look of them.

So last Monday I travel to Steve's to see the finished car. I love the look of it, the sound of it, the drive of it, the old interior of it. Then we start saying maybe fix the headliner, then pull the seats and re-do them, then this, then that, needs orginal colored spark plug wires..etc etc etc..and as the day goes on, the bill climbs and the time frame of it not being used increases.

I sleep on it over night and just decide NOPE. I want the car back so I can drive it. Our driving season is approacing and I dont want to go a full season with out the fun of the car. So on a truck it went yesterday and should be to me here Monday AM. I will drive it as much as I can and enjoy it. I dont care if the plug wires are the wrong color, I dont care if the wheels really belong on a S1 CAR not this S2. I just WANT to play with it. After all it IS a Countach that I seriously dont think a single person, (other then some of us experts here) could pick it apart as I drive it in Public up here in Seattle. I know for sure I wont be driving with the motor bonnet up, so no one can see the wrong color spark plug wires LOL

At the end of the season..who knows what I do..maybe I have had my fun with it and we part ways, maybe I put it in for further restoration over the winter, maybe I just look at it for what it is, a "old" cool Iconic mand made/built great machine that was built to drive and enjoy, not to worry about and be concerned what another person things is wrong or missing on it from when it left the factory.

    Only time will tell...

Recently I had tried to adjust the "Agreed Value" on the policy of my S1 Countach to reflect what I think are reasonable values. I begged and struggled to get an agreed value of $115K -- this would be less than half of what is being suggested on this tread.

Have others had similar experiences? Thanks

Not sure which service/company you use. I recently switched to the Barett-Jackson provider. My current S2 is agreed value of $250k, my Periscopa at $600K..

Years ago, I took a stab, at Peter's 'special' Countach :D. At the time, he was also not interested in letting it geaux.

    _________

A person should take into account the true value of money, when discussing the value of a car.

Years ago, you could buy an F-40, for the bottom 300's. I guess today, a decent car, is in or around 600K ? If today's price for a decent F-40 is true, it does not mean, you have just doubled your money, if you purchased in or around 300K. The value of money, has lost considerable buying power, over the last few years. A dollar today, will probably bring a different value tomorrow.

If I needed the opinion of a known expert, I'd ring Gary Bobileff and see if he could assist. I'm not saying Roy and Joe don't qualify as experts, only that Gary has been recognized in legal proceedings as an expert. As his website states; "Gary was considered an 'Expert In The Field' in previous court appearances by The California Highway Patrol and The State Of California."

If I were you, I'd also be dropping that provider and getting someone new before I drove my Countach in that situation.

Any chance we can get you to post a picture or two of your S1? Some of us have a terrible addiction to Bravo wheels, and I needs my medicine! :D

Sorry, I didn't see your post. I attached a picture, but sorry, the SW speedo I have is the one in MPH. This is not original as it came from the factory. However, some put these in the grey market cars that came to the US because they are the same speedometer with a different face and calibration. Sorry I don't have what you need. I will check around to see if anyone I know has one.

David this is just a matter of the specific insurance company you are using. Some (such as Hagerty) will insure to true value..

Agreed, I would simply dump that insurance company in favor of one that is happy to get real (& your business!).

As regards specialist appraisals towards true insurance values, I do this often and have posted about it in the Countach thread where a certain famous owner's Countach was under-insured. I assisted him with an appraisal and the insurer upped the coverage appropriately. The only relevant qualification for doing this is being someone who can show that they genuinely specialize in the make/model concerned, to the satisfaction of the entity issuing coverage.

In fact, I regularly receive unsolicited contact from insurance companies, individuals & editors looking to assess the value of a Miura or Countach. Obviously they have done their own due-diligence and have determined that my considered opinion as a specialist is of value to them. I'm always happy to oblige.

Wow, nice! looks like a very special blue/purple, is it an custommade paint? You did all repairs on the bodywork at yourself?! looks like the car had a rough life before you bought it, unbelievable how people can destroy a nice car like that!!! How much miles are on the car today? Thanks for the pictures!
