Thanks Jonathan. Interesting and good to know that it is probably still being enjoyed by someone. We are all only ever custodians, even if we think we are owners......

On a side note, your car looked wonderful today glistening in the sunshine at Brands.

I have only just found this thread - absolutely fascinating!

I don't suppose that anyone has any photos of my Dino - blue, registered YGS 971M - by any chance?

The photos of Modena Engineering bring back happy memories of the early '70s: the father of a chum of mine was a director of ME, so we were allowed to use the workshops after hours to fettle Richard's Formula Ford (an elderly Merlyn). However, we quickly realised that we were not born mechanics (it took us up to 4 hours to change the ratios in the gearbox, a job that could be done in 20 minutes by a competent mechanic!), so Richard's father took pity on us and had the car professionally maintained after that.

It was also Richard's father whom I have to thank for my first drive in a Ferrari (as well as my first job in the City, but that's another story and nothing to do with Ferraris): at a private track day for ME directors and friends at Goodwood (before track days became as fashionable as they are now), I was allowed to take his Dino out (alas not his 275!) - an experience I have never forgotten and one of the reasons I own a Dino now.

That will be this one then. I took this photo but don't recall seeing the actual accident.
It also sustained some damage to the front near side.

    Cheers

When did you take this photo, David?

There doesn't appear to be any DVLA record or digital (last 11 years) MOT history available on any of the three plates that have been associated with this 308 GT4.

Most recent change of keeper (now on its 13th, apparently) is down as being in November 1998.

Its amazing the power of the internet.
It would be interesting to know the chassis number?
Many thanks for that David. I will need to show my friend his old car!

As of 2013 it didn't look quite so good. This was posted on twitter then by James Cameron (@Tankslider) who runs the charity Mission Motorsport. There can't have been too many all white Boxers and I remembered this post straight away when I saw the above pic.

    Torquespeak, LWB,

I took the photo at the Carrera Sport Goodwood day, it was 31st May 1993 - the day of the accident.

I did some digging and found the car in the background of some other shots. One of which are pre-accident - behind Vic Sawyer's Countach. It did look a bit sorry for itself with dings and gaffer tape everywhere.

I was always puzzled as to why under the plate there was another plate with the reg number 653 RU which is the plate worn by Mike Pullen's 4 llitre S Countach. Never did find out why.

Anyway, here are the other photos that may be of interest.
Hope they are of some use.

    Cheers
    David

Completely forgot the former was an option - scratch my previous query; definitely looks like Medio to me.

I think you were right the first time if my records are to be believed. The last I have on this car it was in New Zealand.

Interesting. That age of Blu Chiaro always seems to have a bit of a green tint to it. Medio (once I'd been reminded) seemed to fit the photos better.

On a related note, is there a reliable source for proportion of Testas that were Rosso Corsa from the factory? I've seen a third party figure of about 95% somewhere, but not sure how accurate that is.
