I have owned some very nice complication Pateks. But one of my all time favorites is the very simple, very elegant, 5711. Mine gets a lot of wrist time and is a staple for any Patek collection. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Some of my favorite watches. I really love, and wear every single day the 5036 in white gold black face, moon phase. I think it has one of the most beautiful faces on any watch I have seen. Nice! I have a few myself but no 5379. That's one awesome watch. Currently in rotation: 5726, 5712r, 5167a. Looking to add the 5711 above in either white or blue dial. Patek is the way to go!
Haha, that's why I like fchat, I can share the pain around. I know the 5970, platinum, black dial might just be the perfect watch. It's spectacular, wearable, collectible, out of production, classic, elegant, versatile. What box doesn't it check? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Tried on a friend's 5270 last night. It's gorgeous. The dial is silvery and changes with the light, in some lights the main dial looks dark grey and the sub dials look white. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Some amazing shots of the best of the best. Most people go with the 5167/A-001 STAINLESS STEEL AQUANAUT, Patek Philippe 5296G Calatrav or Nautilus initially. Then work up to complications and then grand complications. Have fun searching and then buying. Searching is the best part. Once you pull the trigger you will be happy but then 30 days latter you will start looking for another one. Trust me on that!
Behold the 5204p ... Perpetual calendar, moon phases, split second chrono. I don't think you get much change from $300,000. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Comes with the territory. I think the 5970 compares very favorably to the 5004 and the price of entry for those is now around $300K.
Gorgeous watch, the third in the series of perpetual calendar chronographs The 3970e in white gold. Picture credit betteridge.com Image Unavailable, Please Login
You can think in terms of building a collection of Ferraris and apply some of the same logic. The collection will still be built by individual watches each having its own value so overall it should express your passion for the brand. As far as style, moon phase and perpetual calendar movements are standards. More than materials, rarity and condition really drives collectability. Received the latest addition of their magazine the other day and a ref. 1436 in stainless with plain leather strap (1 of 2) in unworn condition sold for just under 3.3 million. A ref. 5016 (minute repeater, tourbillion perpetual calendar with retrograde date) steel cased sold for 7,260,000 but it was created for the auction as one of one with proceeds going to charity so that may have had a huge impact. Set the record for most expensive wristwatch ever sold at auction. I would just add to continue to learn about the movements. It is so much a part of the fun. Then by some to wear often, some to use sparingly if a real investment, mix up the styles, and look to buy from different decades.
I am assuming there will be less made of 5712 due to complications so long term this will be more interesting? Just a guess. Both super chich understated everyday watches.
