Did a few others get painted white early on when the Vice cars got their screen time? I have seen multiple white flying mirrors, which does not seem to go along with the few listed here.

Well, we have what percentage of the U.S. cars made in 85/86 listed? Perhaps 90 cars listed so far? Of course, it is only a guess as to how many of the running examples this represents.

Surely there are a lot of others out there, maybe derelict, maybe broken up for parts, etc. And, it would seem to me that if a person were willing to repaint the King of all Ferraris (in it's day), <<and to imitate a TV show!>> you might very well not be the sort of person that would be committed to a 22 year long preservation schedule.

It a repaint to white did survive and get sold today, I would hazard a guess that a new owner might well be tempted to put it back in its original colors.

BTW - I had a sort of single-mirror-selfish reason for suggested we extend the list to the newer cars. CircleInd made the point way back when this started that probably the single-mirror was quite a bit more rare than we imagine - I.E. that the bulk of what we call the "mass-production" of TRs were probably the mid-production cars. 87 to 91 or so?

I would like to know just how rare our original & unmodified flying mirrors are and that would give an indication.

The speedo for 58275 is indeed calibrated in kms. It does not have cats presently, but I understand the original system did include them. Also, it has aftermarket single-bolt wheels manufactured in France (manufacturer unknown), and a third (brake) light mounted under the rear roof panel (as opposed to being integral to the engine cover). Given the wiring and fit, the brake light does appear to be a factory item although that is not something I have confirmed. New passenger cars sold in Canada were required to have the third light beginning in 1986, but not earlier, so this car may have required a "dealer fix".

Thanks for all the effort on this thread...

Thought this thread needed a bump again as the Boxer 100 reminded me.

So, I am counting 88 cars here (not counting 67614 as it is first double mirror?)

Is it possible that with the law of diminishing returns, we are close to the 90th percentile here for Fchat owners? Now, who dares to guess how many of the total surviving cars that could be?

I would probably be comfortable in the notion that this list may well represent 50-60% or a little more of all these cars still around. And that the point of "so many made they are like cloned sardines" is just a myth for the flying mirrors.

    James

Well, welcome to you fpilot. I guess that was worth the bump - only the fourth post from this owner and he is the latest 86 on our list.

They didn't make any as the passenger side mirror is 100% useless from the drivers side. They also didn't make tr's with ABS and cruise control which that car is advertised as having. Not to mention the red front grille, spoiler and cheesey aftermarket wheels. YUK !

Can you post a picture of the 17-digit VIN...? This car shouldn't be a North American car - and if it is, it should be an '85.

James, can you revise that serial number...? No such number for a Ferrari exists. Since it's pre-75000, it should be an odd number.

It wasn't my number; Circleind is keeping the list...I was just counting how many we had and didn't think it belonged either.

Agree that these should be odd numbers.

On the additional right hand high mirror, aside from the usability, have you ever SEEN one? - it just simply doesn't work from a style perspective - while the single mirror is part of the high original style because it is unique.

I know how you bought that silver one.....

So that was YOU on the stage chomping on the stoogy and bidding against me on that silver one eh...... Too bad we did not recognize each other first... You beat me out at the end. I think between us we drove it up a few $$$ :)

I wanted that one myself for a daily driver....

Glad you got the wheels as well. Too bad you didnt tell me you were in town.
