I wrote a procedure for changing the timing belts in an 86' 328. It included removing the passenger side fuel tank to eliminate the need to disconnect the ac compressor. I cannot find the procedure. Does anyone know how to find an archived file. Or find any procedure on replacing the timing belts

I'd rather pull the compressor than the fuel tank any day of the week.

For those who still have R12 still in the system, not pulling the compressor can be very beneficial.

Doing a major service, so pulling the tank makes things much easier. Changing all hoses , vacuum, fuel and coolant. Cam seals, timing belts , shims etc. Removed plemun , injectors and so on.

Yeah, pulling the tank seems alittle excessive. LOL
Just pull the compressor, leaving the lines connected, place a piece of 1" soft foam under it and use some wire to secure it out of the way against the tank.

I'm curious as to how you get the tank out with the compressor and suspension still attached? The friggen tanks are one hell of a tetris puzzle to remove and install. The driver side one is esp a PITA to R&R!

You can get the tank out with the compressor moved out of the way, and part of the brake system undone. It rotates and slides out only one way

Its been a while since I had my 308 and I know I never removed the fuel tank to change timing belts. Nor did I have to disconnect the AC lines to get the job done. Maybe just moved the compressor out of the way, but that was it.

It was like doing the timing belt on my old X1/9...... except there were two!

I have done plenty of 308 and 328 timing belts. Never had to disconnect the AC, or to remove the fuel tanks for the timing belts.

Sometimes I felt like I should just removed those damn things, but I never actually had to.

I did remove the fuel tank to replace the injection rail at the front bank. Fun !
