Hi Tony, Great job .... please could i just re confirm my place on your list of future customers when the tool kit is finished?! regs, jez
As usual, I am in. Tony, please let me know when the screwdrivers are ready. For those who have not purchased any of Tony's reproductions, they are amazing.
Theses repro tools look fantastic well done to you. It shows great devotion to the car and embodies the spirit of the brand in the early days. I live in HK and travel regularly to China. The Chinese are expert at spotting the arbitrage between the price of an original and how cheap it is to reproduce one (Think handbags etc). I can confirm that there are people with factories on the Pearl River that are looking at making this kind of stuff so let's see how things develop.
Interesting comments, good luck. The wheel wrenches and pliers are now plated and have come up really well. The wheel wrenches are faithful repro's but unfortunately I cannot make them strong enough from Wrought iron, they need to be a different type of steel which is cost prohibitive. They look good and therefore I will only be able to use this particular item for "show" purposes. Those that expressed an interest let me know if this meets with your approval, if so i'll get a few more made for you. Kind regards Tony
I couldn't wait any longer so borrowed an old tool pouch while I am waiting for the repro ones to be made (with red lining) I think the tools have come out pretty damn good if I say so myself. The screwdrivers are near perfect copies. To say I am please with these repro's is an complete understatement. Anybody know where to get the small carb key from as I just cannot make these within reason, the tooling is way to expensive. I have this original which is loaned to me. PR Originals show the carby key at $57.50,look forward to hearing from you re my order ,screwdrivers look fantastic well done Tony.
I received my screw drivers from Tony this morning and they are fantastic. I know the effort that was put into these to get them as close to perfect as possible and it has been very worthwhile. Anyone missing these items will be delighted with them. Unlike other repro's the shafts sit exactly as they do on the originals and end very close to the tip of the handle. The handles are flawless reproductions in terms of shape, size and colour and have the raised V12000 marking as per the originals. Top work again Tony. My sincere thanks.
Tony pm me if interested as sorting though some of my old Dino books I believe I found my old Dino carb key.
Mission accomplished....at last. All the items are reproduction and are amazingly accurate in my opinion. The most difficult item were the screwdrivers, these took several processes to make from engineering each end by hand, zinc plating, then creating the mould by 3d mapping the handle and finishing off the mould by spark erosion process for a perfect finish and replicate the "V12000" logo on the side. Then i had to send the original screwdriver handle for lab testing to get the correct colour resin. Once i had this info the injection moulding process could begin, a special jig was made to hold the shanks in there exact location during the casting process, each one then took only minutes to make!! Finding the correct material was also challenging and eventually found a source in Europe for this, the overall appearance is as close to the original as I think you can get (without spending 10 thousands $$ ) Anyone interested in buying a few remaining full sets** then please PM. Matching jack bags and late window crank handle are also available as an extra item. I have several sets of screwdrivers available as well. **no carb key in the kits as unfortunately as I cannot make these for a realistic price. Once gone that's it. Mine arrived this morning Tony and I have to say left me speechless at how good they are. I have a very tired original jack bag and these are so close it is incredible. You have done a fantastic job reproducing the tool kit and I take my hat off to you for the service you have done for fellow owners as I know how much hard work and effort you have put in to ensuring the details are correct. Thank you for your kind words Iain, it is appreciated as are all the PM's thanking me for the effort I have put into these. It rather ballooned out of control as I got sucked into doing more and more. In the end I am glad I did as it has proved very satisfying. Thank you
