Thanks, Rob. It suits me perfectly at this time it seems. You have a gorgeous aircraft--I saw pictures of it this evening and I know I have seen it before, but it has more meaning for me now.
The current group - T-28, Sopwith F.1 Camel and a two-seat Sopwith Baby (under construction). I've just realized that it is near nuts to have 3 airplanes with a total of 5 seats. But, note they ALL have sticks and round engines. Best to all Russ Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

This was this past Thursday, on the way to Monterey , KMRY was below minimum's, and ATC kept me in a holding pattern for about 20 min. before they asked for an alternate. Salinas was the alt, but I asked to try to shoot an ILS approach at MRY, minimums were 300', saw the lights at 301'..... or something there abouts, successful safe landing at MRY. ATC said that I was the 2nd aircraft that made it in that morning. No commercial traffic, all diverting to San Jose and Salinas and SFO. Gary Bobileff
Hi Gary, Which fine Cessna product were you flying at the time? Would something small like a Mustang make landing less nervy under those conditions? KevFla
The aircraft was a Citation 1, and I don't think that aircraft type has anything to do with it, I was just lucky to find a little " hole" in the clouds, so I wouldn't have to do a missed approach, and go on to Salinas as an alternate. Gary Bobileff
My plane is a Decathlon that I've owned and flown since 1992. Although limited in how far you can go in aerobatics, it's a fun plane regardless. You can fly comfortable cross country, and do a few loops and rolls along the way. As well, it's an affordable plane for me. Burns around 8.5 gal./hr. you can see from the panel that instrumentation is minimal, and thus less costly, but plenty sufficient for good 'ol VFR flying. Stressed for +6 and -5 G's and will fly a nice acro box. If you want to land on a friend's grass strip, that's OK too !
