Wonderful idea! In my view too many Silhouettes have had the paint or interior or both changed from the original scheme though I have to confess that the Bravos on my car are no longer gold.

Does anyone know if any other Silhouettes were delivered with gold wheels?

Does anyone have any opinion about gold wheels on a red car?

Earlier in the thread someone commented that not all Silhouettes had the stripe on the seats.

Ive done a little research which tells me that all Silhouettes originally had this feature.. any cars that were photographed without the seat stripes even as far back as the 80s will have had the seats re-upholstered.

    Tony, concur?

From my research, I agree as well...the interior on my recently aquired car has been re-done..nicely but it has been re-done.

I checked the period pictures and have to agree all cars were photographed with the seat stripe, although I have my doubts for the below car (#40004 ?).

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=139854655&postcount=32

The red car pictured in the catalogue and I think it has not, it's also the only period picture I can find for a car without the black colour stripe at the front spoiler.

The picture on page 2 of the brochure shows the red car with a black stripe on greyish cloth seats.

I have an orginal brouchure of this, (pics attached) it is hard to see put the Red car has grey cloth interior seats with a brown leather stripe down the center of the seat, as all others do as well.

Irrespective of what the book might suggest this is not a picture of 40052!

The position of the parked wipers (always parked pointing away from the driver) shows this to be a RHD car which must be 40010 (the only gold RHD car). Further the Silhouette script points the correct way so the picture hasn't been reversed.

Which explains why it does not look like Rame Colorado Metalizzato even though its an old image.

Ah, okay then i'm just crazy not blind ;-)

I bought that brochure some years ago, the shop that painted my ex 40076 was Berlinetta Motorcars... they are quite proud of it.

    http://www.berlinettamotorcars.com/lamborghini_restorations_service_repairs.htm

I provided the pictures years ago, the reason they did not paint the chin areas black was because of the brochure car.

I'll have to send them a note to correct the year, they have it listed as a 1979. The car is titled as a 1978 but was built in 1977.

Tony..or anyone..is this true what they post about your ex-car..?

    Lamborghini Silhouette

Of the 52 Silhouettes produced, only one was a US spec version and it was in Car and Driver magazine January 1979. Owned and imported by Luigi Chinetti.

I thought there was approx 7 USA Spec cars..mine as one included..?

Which brings the next question...would the ODO read in MPH or KM..

I know that the USA Spec JARAMA cars the ODO is in MPH

    Hi Roy,

The info they have was from the C&D article.

My ex car was the first US car so at the time it was "the only" there were cars after but like yours not all had the us marker lights cut into the aluminum which I think looks better.

My ex car has a 180 MPH speedometer.

Sorry my mistake, couldn’t see the position of the steering wheel and didn’t pay attention to the position of the parked wipers. Because the color looks different from the other one for #40010 I believed it was a different car (#40066 was already eliminated because it has US blinkers). Strange to see that there is so much color difference between the two pictures for #40010, the colors as reflected on the scan are almost exactly the same as in the books.

Anyone with a picture for a Rame colorado colored car ?

According to Pasini your car was tested on 20.03.78 and delivered on 15.05.78. I do not know if you have the build sheets but all the other relevant dates should be shown there.

On the set of Silhouette test notes I have seen (not my car), once the car had passed Balboni's second test session the final instructions are written “Go on with finishing body jobs finishing lights frames frontal part of the car etc”

Thus it seems possible to me that the pictures of the red brochure car (which I believe to be 40004) might have been taken around the time that Balboni was testing – before the final paintwork had been finished. This might also account for the stainless frame surround – temporary lack of suitable part perhaps.

It might also explain why the paint on the Gold Silhouette in the Convoy article still needed finishing when they turned up at the factory to collect it.

No worries - curiously, I thought that the other picture of 40010 showed the driver on the left side of the car and that is what led me to check the wipers etc in both pictures.

Oro 2.463.239 was a standard colour for Espada and Urraco so it is quite likely that this was the colour used for 40010.

I speculate that Mike Pullen's 400S taken to 30th anniversary was Rame Colorado. Can anyone confirm this?

ILR has the car as metallic purple but if you scroll down about halfway there are two pictures of this car with the colour I remember!

look closely at the Convoy article and you can even see the mechanics had the vitaloni california mirrors installed upside down in one of the pics!

Yes I had also noticed this. There are some clearer shots of the offending mirror (only one was fitted) in article "Silhouette the Slick" (Car Dec '76). A left hand mirror has been fitted to the right hand side! Presumably there were no right hand ones available.

Very nice, I always loved the Silhouette, but since none was available in 2000 I bought a Jalpa instead.
