+1 The Pasini records learned us that none of the Silhouettes was originally delivered with a black exterior but it really looks great. On the other hand you can never get the same effect with the black colour stripe on the front spoiler .
To be really nerdy about the delivery of 400010 and the Mel Nichols article Acccording to Pasini, 40010 was tested on Monday 11th October 1976 and delivered on Friday 15th. Mel Nichols says his party arrived on a Thursday evening (14th) and they stayed at Rene Leimers flat as all the hotels were full. On the morning of the 15th they spoke with Scarzi on the telephone who is quoted as saying Your cars? Perhaps this afternoon, perhaps tomorrow morning. They arrived at the factory that afternoon. The Silhouette was not finished and needed several hours work so they stayed a second night. They finally took delivery on the Saturday morning (16th) and drove to Nantua in France for the night. They left early on Sunday morning (17th) and drove to Calais, took the ferry to Dover, cleared the car through customs and then drove to London arriving late on Sunday night. For those of you who do not know.... Mel Nichols penned one of CAR's most celebrated drive stories: Convoy, published in February 1977. It was a never-to-be-forgotten journey in a convoy of Lamborghinis the Countach, Silhouette and Urraco. Did anyone notice that the gold P300 in Convoy has a P250 bonnet grille? Missing the parts again? Does anybody know the identity of this RHD car?
i think there is at least on other P300 with the 2 vent P250 bonnet. but i thought that was an very early late 74 or 75 version. i havent a clue what serial # it was but it looks to be silver in color. some very late P111 had the later multi vane hood too! must be the typical italian supplier issue. here's a couple pics of my old P300 hood. cheers dam...forgot i cant post anymore pics!

Its also for sale on car and classic website since 12th October http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C188073/
It is regrettable. Four silhouette are an exposed to nature in Japan. It rots every year. Owners do not repair. It only returns to the soil. Four lp400 are similarly abandoned. It was abandoned that a foolish mechanic mended.
Heres a link with pictures for two of the unlucky cars http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/vt250fd/38383203.html The idea was to restore the red car and keep the silver car as donor. The silver car must be #40044, the only Silhouette that was delivered with a blue interior. Any idea which number the red car is?
Well, my car sold over the weekend...is heading out of the country to the UK!! Seems like everything of value is crossing the pond lately. http://www.catsexotics.com/web/1317/vehicle/663651/1977-Lamborghini-%20Silhouette-Targa Image Unavailable, Please Login
I am the very lucky buyer of 40052 - my first Lamborghini. I haven't yet seen the car in person, but Roy has a good reputation so I am either being very sensible or a bit silly. Let's hope it doesn't sink when crossing the Atlantic! I have been dreaming of owning a Silhouette since reading the Car magazine articles (the Geneva launch, "Convoy" and "Sad Sweet Song") at the tender age of 11. Somewhere in my parent's house on the wall of my old bedroom there is still a picture of what I think must be 40096. One of the UK Lamborghini dealers told me recently that I would probably die an old man before owning one, so I am delighted to have proved him wrong. It's not every day that you get to realise a childhood dream; I couldn't get to sleep last night with excitement. It is an honour and a privilege to have become one of a select group of owners. The car is coming to the UK because my family doesn't want to move to the US! It will be used for special occasions only, but I hope to take it back to its Modena birthplace for a visit some time soon. I live near Colin Clarke who is one of the leading UK specialists, so hopefully he will be able to help me keep it in good shape. It's a long time since I owned a 1970s car and I am sure there will be some pain and disappointment along the way (e.g. trying to buy replacement P7s!), but I would rather regret doing something than not doing something. While I'm not superstitious, I take some comfort from the fact that 40052 shares a birthday with my wife (both were first delivered on 17 December). I'll let you know whether the reality matches the dream when the car arrives over here, hopefully in a month or so. Jonathan
Well done to you!!... They are beautiful cars and very few in the UK. I'm sure you will love it. Wind in your hair on the odd summers day.. V8 singing behind your head.. MMM Enjoy!!
Glad to see you on here..you will enjoy the car..it sits in MY OWN garage currently. I have enjoyed approx 200 miles with in the past month or so of ownership, most of the time with the top off and "exceeding" the speed limit just a bit LOL LOL The tires on the car are quite fine. There is a slight balance shake at 50-52 MPH, so just go a bit faster. The spare is there...hard to find. The tool kit is almost all there, but you can grow it from other sources. It starts up very easy, however when cold the use of the manual choke is a must. I do find it funny that the gas filler neck is INSIDE the engine bay..always thought that was a bit dangerous..I mean stop for fuel, fill up over hot engine...pray no over spill. The paint and interior are in very very good shape. It is still missing the orginal radio..stolen at one point during shipping...however the "Mexico" brand replacements are quite east to loacte on E-Bay..I myself was more concerned with the zippy rev sounds of the engine then an AM radio station. I am the process of possible securing an orginal OEM owners book..if I do I will advise you and hopefully it will come in at very very reasonable fee. I should know when the owner gets back in town from vacation in a week or so. My son Jonathan will take care of you for shipping...we already have it set for enclosed trailer on Wednesday this week to head to Long Beach California for a ship container. Call him and we go over details with you. Post pics when it arrives and enjoy the car as I have. Roy Cats
Road and Track road tested the prototype Silhouette three weeks after the Geneva 1976 show and the article was published in August 1976 issue. The article says "In the prototype Silhouette the new high-style seats were a disaster, their padding so thin and soft that one's bottom rested smack on a structural ridge underneath; I've been assured that this will be corrected before production begins". I have not found this to be a problem on my car but the tubular seat frames have fractured where they connect to the bars bolted to the runners and I need to effect a repair. I suspect that on the prototype the bars may have extended under the entire seat, causing the discomfort, whereas on my car the bars merely connect the runner to the seat frame, leaving a gap in the middle, which suggests that the bars may have been cut to alleviate the problem. As my car is early could one or more Silhouette owner(s) out there please lift a seat cushion and post a photo of the seat/runners underneath so I can ascertain whether my arrangement is usual - many thanks.
My apologies I didn't post a photo of one of my seats to show the bars in question! I am planning to get them recovered during the winter to match the original spec. Unusually they are in black (yes it has faded and now looks dark red) plain velour (rather than the material used on many other cars) but I believe the second prototype 40002 also had plain velour seats in light grey. And yes they came with a black leather stripe! Any contributions regarding original set materials would be welcome! Image Unavailable, Please Login
