There are several problems. Getting it to stick to alum, having it protect without being sticky-trapping dirt and stones, and not weighing too much. After much testing we're using a "Rhino Lining". This is a properitary process used on pickup bed liners that we're spraying and baking smooth in a thin layer. It's VERY protective and not too heavy. It also really sticks to the alum.
What of the car is remaining original? I mean, what separates this from an absolutely amazing recreation? Are you using the original rolling chasis? Obviously your using the original body with some filler. If there is an earlier threat in which you discuss this, feel free to point me towards it, as I am very interested. Thanks and good luck.
I'll check it out - just an aside - is your Mark IV the yellow one that I see from time to time at Wide World of Cars events? If so, I think I have some great pics of it! Last time I've been up to one of those owners meets was a few years ago.
Interesting. One of the problems with my Porsche C4 is that the front wheels throw a lot of rocks and stuff, which is starting to overwhelm the existing protection. So maybe something like this further up the road might make sense. Thanks, Dale.
Coooooool!! I can't wait! April really is too far away. Congrats on the shop Jim! Good to see you carried on with it. Cheers
Talking about weight. What kind of primer / paint / clear coat will you use for the body paint. How many layers, before and after buffing?
We're using the original system which is etching primer, primer, sanding coat, sanding primer, two coats of hand mixed "Rossa Corsa" ( a touch of violet) and that's it. (No clear coat) The one shot of the nose with filler shows you all the layers. Best
Yep, the official black goo looks great . All very exciting!!!. Never wished I live in the States more. You are probably very lucky Jim, as if I lived close I would have to come and stare ... and help out, er, or keep out of the way Pete
Yes happy Thanksgiving to you Jim, and Merry Christmas. Australians don't do the Thanksgiving thing ... maybe I should start something , but we are running as fast as we can into Christmas. I even (for my children) have decorated the outside of the house with the lights, etc. Never done that before but my 3 year old daughter keeps saying thanks and that they look 'cool' ... so I'm glad I did to see that smile Pete
thanks again mr Napolis..... its threads like this that keep me motivated in my ferrari pursuit. as the phoenix rises from the ashes reborn and new.... so shall the P4 scream once more!
They actually look OK, Jim. You could tale a little off the disc side, but the rotors shouldn't grow much in thickness, only in diameter, and that is probably very little. You could use temp paint on the edge of the duct to see if it is rubbing/heating up...obviously, if it rubs, the paint is gone, but the temp paint will give you clue to hot spots as well. Just an idea, FWIW. Looks nice. Lee
